joining me now are victoria defrancesco soto and james peterson., speaker boehner gets covered then spends the weekend trying to trash the law. why won't they justin embrace this? >> i don't know, rev. i mean, obviously the deal with speaker boehner, he's being means tested. he tried to politicize something th up being inaccurate. but the irony of this whole thing is when you look at working best in california and kentucky as you mentioned, it works best in the states where the states have taken control over the exchanges and made it sort of adaptable to their own states and to their own constituents. and it's the republican party that is always sort of touting states rights. they're always pushing the autonomy of the states. so it's a huge irony here that if they had worked through the processes that are consistent with their own ideology, they would have been more successful in this process. so i hope that more states sort of accept medicaid, but also more states create their own exchanges to offset some of the challenges we've seen with healthca

good morning to zerlina maxwell, judd legum is the editor in chief of think progress and victoria defrancesco soto msnbc and nbc latino contributor. gang, it's good to see you this morning. victoria, i want to start with you and what's going on with the cheney family and mary and liz cheney. the daily beast has an article up entitled how mary cheney can save the gop. it argues while same-sex marriage is driving the wedge between the sisters, their fight is larger and symbolic because of the issue that's also driving a wedge between the republican party and voters, especially the younger voters across the country. so can this be a teachable moment for the gop, at least how they spring out of this as a teachable moment? >> well, first of all, i think it's going to be an incredibly interesting thanksgiving dinner over at the cheney house. but more broadly speaking, when we look at the drama, at the family drama going on here, i think it's a reflection of the political drama that we have seen nationwide. let's take the democratic party, for example. we saw the democrats struggling with the issue of ga

joining me now are joy reed and victoria defrancesco soto. thanks for coming on the show. texas is the state that needs obama care the most, yet it's where republicans are fighting it the hardest. how does that make sense? >>, i think you said it perfectly. what you're seeing is for ideological reasons, the states that have the highest levels of poverty, which happen to be red states in the deep south, places like mississippi, alabama, texas, that have extraordinary rates of poverty, high numbers of the uninsured are for ideological reasons refusing to take, and this is a 100% federally funded expansion of medica medicaid. the government is matching it 100% to provide health care for the most vulnerable. and even if they don't care about the poor in their state, which their behavior reflects an immoral stance that for ideological reasons we refuse to let please people have an insurance card so they can go to the doctor. at a certain point they're going to have to demand this because they are still treating these patients in the emergency room at the highest possible cost.

here with me in the studio is victoria defrancesco soto, a contributor and a fellow at the lbj school of the university of texas. laura flanlders, host of grit tv and caton dawson, our favorite republican, former senior adviser to governor rick perry. also with us from washington, d.c., is rafy ran, the former director of security at the israel airport authority and current president of new age security solutions and consultant to boston's lonegan airport. nice to have you with us this morning. >> thank you. >> let me ask you really the question that has been on my mind since the shooting yesterday. does this latest experience expose any new vulnerabilities in american air travel? >> well, actually, it's not new. the fact we have focused during the last 12 years on security of the aircraft rather than the airport as well doesn't make it new, because if you only go back to the terrorism against aviation in europe and other parts of the world during the '70s and the '80s, many of those attacks were carried against the airport, not against the aircraft. you can name all the major airplan
