one member, victoria spartz of indiana, told me just a couple of hours ago, anderson, that she was a hard no, but then she just voted in favor of adopting this budget resolution. another member, warren davis. davis, had indicated he was concerned about how spending issues would be dealt with to keep the government open past march 14th. he appears to have gotten some commitments there, but they did lose one republican vote. thomas massie of kentucky, who has criticized this measure by saying that it would essentially explode the budget deficit when republicans are saying that they would do the opposite with this plan, and that's all that the speaker could afford to lose in this vote. just one republican vote. and that's what he limited defections to, to get this across the finish line. but, anderson, this is actually supposed to be the easy part to pass this broad blueprint about where they want to proceed. now they have to actually draft the legislative details to fill in all the blanks on on spending cuts, on overhaul of the tax code, on what they want to do on the border, everythin

i just talked to congresswoman victoria spartz of indiana, who is circling around the speaker suite.a hard no. tonight on the final budget resolution in the house, she actually told me that she won't get to yes until and unless speaker johnson moves from the $1.5 trillion in cuts to two and a half to $3 trillion in cuts. that is astronomical. astronomical to even envision. because even at the $1.5 trillion, $2 trillion in cuts, if you don't touch medicaid and you don't touch medicare and you don't touch food stamps, it is impossible to see how the math works in that scenario. you mentioned democrats leader jeffries spoke about this this morning. let's listen and we'll talk about it on the other side. >> children will be devastated. families will be devastated. people with disabilities will be devastated. seniors will be devastated. hospitals will be devastated. nursing homes will be devastated. so let me be clear. house democrats will not provide a single vote to this reckless republican budget. not one. >> here's the thing. if johnson wants this house budget resolution to pass tonig

he ultimately got victoria spartz, who is an indiana republican, who told me just hours ago she was a, quote, hard no, and then voted for it. and also warren davidson another republican who indicated he was going to vote against this plan. we know that president trump himself was on the phone with some of these members, ultimately ultimately urging them to get behind this plan. but as you mentioned, caitlin, this is the easy part. they need to adopt a single budget blueprint out of the house and the senate. the house and the senate still have to agree on the one budget blueprint. they are on much different courses right now, so they have to negotiate and reach an agreement on that, and then they have to pass it again through the house and the senate, and then they have to draft the legislative text. and that is going to be incredibly difficult, as we're talking about a sweeping overhaul of the tax code, energy provisions, immigration provisions, defense program, as well as an increase to the national debt limit and a massive array of spending cuts that is bound to divide their party.

victoria spartz of indiana is another., they just they just kind of just vote no. and so they can't afford to have more than one person vote no right now. so it's going to be tough. but i think they get there. and then yeah, when you get to the house senate conference, how big are the spending cuts and how much room do you make for new tax cuts? i think those are going to be the key questions they're going to have to answer. >> yeah. and of course i always watch the market backdrop here. the fact that the ten year has fallen a little bit, i don't know if that takes some pressure off markets not really reacting yet. when would you expect it to become more of a market moving event. >> well, i think i think it's going to have to look like that. the package is really collapsing and i don't i don't think we're we're going to get to that point any time soon. certainly. look, the republicans have their back against the wall. and, you know, congressman massie was just talking about how you're going to be adding to the deficit unde

victoria spartz of indiana, warren davidson of ohio, both of them indicating that they are still planning to vote against it. and it also depends, jake, and the number of members who actually appear for this vote. remember, johnson can only afford to lose one vote if all members are present in voting. but if there are absences, that could change the threshold. if there are enough democratic absences, he could potentially afford to lose two republican votes. so that means potentially he could get over the finish line. if he can flip some of these holdouts. now, the question ultimately is if they don't, what will plan b be? and that's uncertain at this moment either. but i caught up with the speaker in the aftermath of his lobbying efforts to persuade some of these republican holdouts to come on board, and he indicated that that effort is still ongoing, even as he said that he does not plan to change the underlying budget blueprint that's coming to the floor later tonight. >> i'm meeting with. >> a couple of those guys again. >> and within the next. >> couple of hours, and. >> we're trying.
