we have russian, chinese, spanish and vietnamese. we take every opportunity we can to go out to fairs throughout the city and pass out our literature and talk wherever we're asked from a public -- any kind of public event, we say yes. we delight in being able to go out and share the information we have to our very culturally diverse city. the city's outdoor warning, public warning system also has the capability of using multiple languages or testing in multiple languages. on the tuesday test you hear at noon in certain neighborhoods, you would hear cantonese and certain neighborhoods you would hear spanish. so, we continually test that and make sure that we have people who speak those languages because that is out of our 911 center who are able to communicate. we also work, as i mentioned, with neighborhood groups. one group i wanted to point out was the chinatown community development center. we did a special disaster preparedness program for them. we actually put them through a little -- it's almost like -- i won't say nert, that's

we have done over 50,000 hours of training and 18,000 classes in vietnamese, spanish, korean and chinese. we have many connected to the internet and we also saw in a recent survey that a number of important percentage of people in the recent evaluations said they are now more closely connected to family and friends now that they are given the technology in classes. the second major change in the program is related, two of these are related to in home supported services. one is wage increase for the ihs workers. this is the first increase that the workers have had in 6 years. the second part of the ihs is fringe increases and other salaries increases due to the projected growth in the program. the last one is our aging technology program and this is enhancement of the nutrition program which we feel very fortunate to have this investment in. this will help to fund increased meals which we have a need for at veterans commons and meal sites around the city and in addition it will help reduce the difficulties that our providers are having to increase cost to deliver meals and provide meals t

these volunteers speak italian, hindu, french, mandarin, portuguese, spanish, tagalog and vietnamese. they are the ones that really help. a couple things i want to point out, the main changes here. when you walked in here you bumped into a bunch of brochures. the real experts are not the brochures but the staff and volunteers who share their information and passion. we put the brochures against the wall and brought the volunteers and staff to the middle. when the people came and they needed to understand what was the heart and soul of the city to meet the geniuses, they found in front and middle. that was an important change. we don't always have a dj out here. many times we have volunteers and staff. another feature we are proud of is technology. we have touch screens. we have sf made products, we'll have more in the future as we continue. we have these the wonderful maps back here. the one of san francisco and it's neighborhood and the one of california. it amazing how many volunteers want to get in front of this map and discuss what they remember about san francisco. we encourage y
