vin gupta. doctor, i know you're in regular practice. probably are answering these questions for your patients every day. how can americans tell the difference between covid, the flu, and rsv? >> well, lindsey, good morning. happy thanksgiving. for those wondering how to tell the difference, because we don't have any at-home test that can test for all three at the same time, hopefully that comes down the pike soon, rsv, especially in young kids less than 2, can caused high-pitched wheezing, noisy breathing, nostrils can flare out. you can see the chest get sucked in, the abdomen, abdominal breathing. those are the signs to work out for a young kid having rsv. flu, high fever, body aches. we've all probably experienced something to that effect at some point in our lives, and covid -- and all these viruses can cause this presentation, let's be clear, but covid can often cause nonpulmonary symptoms, cause g.i. upset, brain fog in long-covid cases. those are three high-level differences, but they can mimic each other. >> what's the risk to c

vin gupta. dr. gupta, thank you as much as always, for being with us this morning.ng to rise across the country. tell us who right now is most vulnerable to this? and where do we stand overall, we've been hearing about a surge this december and january, does that seem likely? >> jonathan, good morning. what we're seeing, especially sitting here in the icu, the individual ending up in the icu and potentially we're expecting a surge to your question, in covid cases probably from now to mid-january is the expectation where we might see a big upswing in covid-related death. but, jonathan, than an older demographic. we're seeing deaths concentrated 65 and older, just for your viewers, 12 months ago during the delta surge, as a comparative point, about half the deaths were in that older age group, but the older half is concentrated in those below 65. now, we're seeing that vulnerability is really concentrated in older demographics. and concerningly, only about a quarter of them have received a booster shot. and even more concerning only about a third have sought out treat

vin gupta, one of our favorites here. thank you for joining us this morning. of diseases that are plaguing the nation right now. walk us through the similarities and differences between symptoms of rsv, the flu, and covid. what should we be looking for and how do we treat them? >> jonathan, good morning. great to see you. as all your viewers will know, these three viruses can all cause sniffles, can cause a cough. it is critical because we don't have a test at home that can distinguish between rsv, flu and covid. they're great mimickers of each other, there can be some differences. this is not always true, but this can perhaps be helpful, especially for those parents out there who might have young kids. what's important to note, rsv, if you have a baby or infant less than 2 years of age, listen for high pitched wheezing, listen -- look for chest -- look for their neck to actually be moving, their chest to be retracting, jonathan. maybe even belly breathing. that's a sign of respiratory distress in young babies, and it can be really a sign that maybe rsv is act
