vin gupta, pulmonologist, global health policy expert and msnbc medical contributor.any strides being made on most cancers and this one, not so much. what do we know about uterine cancer, and what's going on? >> chris, one of the challenges is we don't have a great way to screen for this. there's some cancers like breast cancer, colorectal cancer, we have clear tools. uterine cancer, we detect it late, especially if folks don't have an obstetrician or primary care doc, and as a result, what we're seeing is they're presenting late to care. they don't know that necessarily irregular menstrual bleeding might be heralding a problem. this lack of screening is driving this, as are increasing risk factor. >> black women are twice as likely to die from uterine cancer as white women are. you talk about early detection. there's just so much disparity based on whether you're a person of color or whether you're a white person in this country. what do we do in a case like this where we know in this instance twice as many black women are dying. >> well, we have to fundamentally bui

vin gupta. dr. gupta, thanks for being with us so quickly. i don't want to get into too much speculation here. we don't know what form of cancer the king has. all we know is that during his hospital procedure which we reported on for a benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. they did subsequent diagnostic tests, and they have identified a form of cancer. are there obvious things that might have been checked or have been found during the procedure he had for an enlarged prostate? >> chris, first of all, thank you for having me. it's important, to your point, not to speculate or talk about things we do not know. having said that, i'm taking this interview from four walls of an icu. what we often do when we're caring for surgical patients that might be coming in for procedure, just like king charles did for removal or for treatment of his prostate enlargement is we look at basic labs. chris, you and i talk about -- weave been talking about medical diagnostics for the last five years. some of those basic labs include w

vin gupta. good to see you.ovid, but i'm not going to end up in the hospital. so if i take this drug, i might get a reaction but not a life threatening one. what does it actually do? >> that's an excellent analogy because part of what we're doing here is allowing families across the country, there's to your point, 17 million people across the country. 6 million kids who have food allergies to items like shellfish, milk and peanuts, the most common culprit food allergens. these families, they live in terrible anxiety. they often can't go to a restaurant. two children in every classroom, it's estimated, have a food allergy. this impacts every part of their daily life. exactly to your analogy, this allows them some exposure to things like say, peanuts, without necessarily going into anaphylactic shock. we know those are on the rise. this couldn't be more timely. >> here's the rub, the list price ranges from 2,900 a month for children to 5,000 a month for adults. that's according to, that might be less with insuranc

vin gupta. always great to see you.y sense what that means in the secretary ace case? >> great to be here. here's what's likely happening. it's an important conversation because prostate cancer is the most common cancer against men in the country. complications are unfortunately somewhat common. what we -- this is speculation because to see degree there is only so much we know what is happening with secretary austin's course. what is likely happening are either incontinence, because there has been injury to the tube that can then allow our bladder to empty. so that's either causing urine leak or there is an obstruction. those are the most common potential consequences or complications from this procedure. he had his prostate removed in the end of december and that's likely causing and can cause recurrent complications. that recurrence is less common. he had this complication back in january, that first that we heard about. the fact that it happened again needs to be a little bit more clarity. is there an obstruction or
