after a wild night of waiting for all the returns to come in, we are moments away from hearing from vince gray. we're expecting him to discuss the next steps for his campaign. he will be on the ballot in the november general election, but keep in mind there is no republican challenger, so gray will almost certainly be dc's next mayor, barring something absolutely crazy from happening from now until then. gray beat fenty by seven points. it was 53% to 48%, which is closer than the polls predicted. we are waiting for 10% of the returns to come in, but the voting broke down geographically. here's how fenty took wards one, two, three and six. that's predominantly northwest, central dc, georgetown, dupont, captiol hill, chinatown and gray took four, five, seven, eight and that is the outer portions of the district including anacostia, fort totten, tacoma and brentwood. now, as soon as gray walks out here, which he should be doing any moment now -- you can see all the supporters that gathered to await this press conference. we're expecting him to talk about what he's going to do next with his campai

when she does, she has set up a meeting with vince gray. he is, of course, the man who defeated michelle rhee's current boss, mayor adrien fenty. in the past she said she did not think she could work with gray. last week she called the outcome of that democratic primary devastating for d.c.'s children. as for gray, he was heavily critical of rhee and her public school reforms and opposed her fairing of more than 200 teachers for under performance. it's almost certain that they will part ways at some point and that gray will choose his own school's chancellor. but, still, gray says school reform will move forward in d.c. and here is what he said in his victory speech last week. >> make no mistake. school reform will move forward in a gray administration. >> it will be done in a holistic way with a strong and powerful chancellor that works with parents and teachers. >> reporter: now, if you read between the lines, you can hear that both sides, rhee and gray are using language that is probably not the most conducive to rhee staying in that posi

this is adrian fenty and vince gray is the primary challenger right now. want to show you something interesting about the mayor. because if you ask people in the district of columbia how it is going, 64% of the residents in the district of columbia say that positive things have happened under mayor fenty, so you would think that he is in good shape for an incumbent, and he is not. this is why, because when people are asked about the wards, richer people up here and poorer people down here and there is a huge economic divide right here in the city. vince gray says that fenty has stopped caring about the base, and cares more about the white voters in this part of the state. and the teacher's union is spending a lot of money, because michelle ree swho is his education chancellor, and she says she does not care if she is controversial. i am not here to be well liked. mayor fenty brought me here to fix the school system, and when you do that, you have to make hard decisions that rankle people, and for me that is okay if i am serffing the children well. >> i liv
