mayor vincent gray ordered the increased speed limits to take effect immediately and insists doing so will not impact safety in these areas. melanie alnwick live with a look at these changes. good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning. this is part of mayor gray's initiative to sort of take a closer look at the speed camera programs in the district. a lot of residents have complained about them. aaa mid-atlantic has called, in some cases, the fines abusive. they day comprehensive review. in november, they made some changes to the fine structure and started looking at the speed limits on the roadways and making sure those are appropriate. in doing that, they've made a couple of changes, actually increasing the speed limit. let's take a look at what is going into effect today. new york avenue where i am right now, eastbound and westbound, we are talking from the maryland line up to bladensburg road. so eastbound, the speed limit will be increased from 40 to 45 miles per hour. westbound, it will be increased from 35 to 40 miles per hour. then we go over to bladensburg road from mount
