time now for the weather and let's bring in meteorologist violeta yas. >> francine became a hurricaneiate advisory yesterday evening. about 7:00 right now still a category 1 storm with winds 90 miles an hour. it may start to accelerate a bit through this afternoon. we've got flood watches in effect here across much of southern louisiana, up into mississippi, extending east as well into parts of mississippi and the western panhandle of florida for about 8 million people. so flooding rain, of course, going to be a big issue in new orleans and batten rouge to louisiana's biggest cities extending right up to jackson, mississippi. you can see where those tape amounts will fall here west of new orleans to east of the jackson area and heavier bands we could be looking up to 12 inches of rainfall. ofg, storm surge is going to be a big issue with this as well with the main surge area where we have those warnings in place. we could be looking at surge anywhere from 5 to 10 feet, so a very dangerous situation, unfortunately, here over parts of the gulf coast. >> we'll certainly be watching that
