the republicans did hold some key seats down in virginia beach in the state senate, but the virginia senate is going to be 21-19. the house is going to be, depending on how the final count goes, the democrats will have a 55 or 56-seat majority in the 100-seat house. guns was a big issue in a lot of the races across the state. republicans were actually in some of the suburban areas trying to talk a little bit like democrats and saying they were, you know, one of their priorities was gun violence prevention. and of course, democrats were hammering republicans on their voting record, saying it doesn't match your rhetoric here on guns. so, the gun issue was very important. one key thing, though, down in virginia beach, where the mass shooting happened at the municipal center, a republican senator was re-elected with a pro gun record against a democrat, missy cotter smosel, who made guns a very big issue. this race was very close, but it appears that the republican there has been re-elected. so, there was some strength for republicans down in the virginia beach area. >> well, then in term

calls for new gun control laws in the wake of mass shootings in el paso, texas, dayton, ohio, virginia beach other parts of the country. this afternoon, gun control advocates are rallying at the wisconsin state capitol in madison. they called on lawmakers to use a special session called by governor tony evers to take up bills mandating universal background checks and allowing judges to temporarily seize guns from people who pose a threat. otherwise, known as red flag laws. i recently traveled to wisconsin and sat down with eight gun owners. some of them only own one rifle. one man owns 100 guns. but all of them have opinions about what should be done about guns in america. we traveled to southeastern wisconsin and assembled a panel of eight gun owners. men, women, democrats, republicans. ranging in age from 19 to 67. among them, a retired police officer, current school superintendent, and a nursing home activities director. all with differing opinions. >> who here thinks we need changes in laws? >> why? why do we need changes in laws? that's silly. >> i think there needs to be some changes f

what we're finding now, saw if in virginia beach with workplace violence and seeing it now in the schools, these kids know perpetrators know the security sort of positioning of these schools. what we call insider threats for a better word. what's going on in the educational system in the security experts like myself is a rethinking of a lot of this stuff, because if it's the kid that is the perpetrator, we're seeing, he's going to know where to go. he's going to know the facility. it's not like newtown, sandy hook, a stranger walks in. that's a real challenge for particularly these high schools where you're going to get that combination of someone who may have access to guns, who also has access to the building. the only solution is you're checking kids at every door. a very bad solution. or we address the issue we ought to address every single time, which is how are these kids getting access to this weaponry? and we'll say it ten minutes after the incident because it has to be said every single time. >> james, ask you as a former fbi official, what's the first thing law enforcement start
