wonderful panel of people, none of them connected to the victims and none of them are connected to virginia tech. they made a bunch of suggestions about campus safety, training, guns, mental health, and they made those recommendations back to us and we made a lot of the changes. i am very sad to say the one i was i could not make, able to fix some of the gap administratively, but i went to my legislature and said look, we need universal background check system. safer.ll make us my legislature would not do it even in the aftermath of the worst shooting tragedy in the history of the united states. the horrible shooting in connecticut of these schoolchildren and their teachers and again, i made the case on the floor in april of 2013. we learned a lesson in blacksburg and now we learned a lesson again. we can make ourselves safer. we can respect the second amendment. i own a gun. we can also have rules that make people safer. that day, in the senate, trying to enact background check legislation with the new town families sitting in the gallery like that cloud of witnesses watching us and sitting wit
