many of us have visited the yosemite valley. is is a photo i took when i was visiting there alongside the river. it is really striking to look at pictures of the same place overtime. again, i think the first week of this course we looked at some of these same images and this is a photograph taken from almost the same location near the river. but taken in 1865. what you could see in it is difficult because the trees are in the way. but you could see there's a metal and the back and there's some kind of forestry that there's also oak trees and willows. it's a much more open landscape than what we see today. similarly we could look at paintings from the 1870. by albert. he's done fancy footwork with the side of the valley, they actually don't matchup, if you look at the photograph, the side of the valley is five miles west of that side of the valley, in his painting, but what's interesting about this painting is again, it's showing us the ecosystem of this landscape in 18 seventies. meadows, oak woodlands with a few coniferous trees
