-- captions by vitac -- www.vitac.com >>> you are live in the cnn newsroom. i'm jim acosta in washington. in ukraine today, an ongoing attempt to keep evacuation corridors open, as civilians face intense russian shelling. just incredible video here showing explosions and gunfire, sending peaceful protesters in ukraine running for their lives. look at this fire power one more time from another angle. explosions just rocking that area. at least four people were injured. right now 100,000 people are still trapped in the port city of mariupol, and russian's siege has reduced it to ashes. or as one ukrainian presidential adviser put it, the city is now gone. a red cross committee left for mariupol today, but cnn is learning they have not made it there as of yet and will spend the night along the route. more than 4,000 civilians have been able to evacuate via humanitarian corridors. ivan watson is in one port city where some convoys are arriving safely. >> reporter: the buses finally arrived from the russian occupied city. it's supposed to be a two and a half hour
