the shooting was the second in a week at vsu. last saturday someone shot someone after the homecoming game. >>> and crews are working to repre vent a flood. >> they are testing a levy near the world war ii memorial. what's the latest there, darcy? >> reporter: well, good morning. i'm live here on 17th street in northwest. it remains closed at this hour. look behind me. you can see the levy wall is completely up. the national park service crews this morning. they say it was a very successful dry run. national park service crews are putting the temporary levy in place piece by piece along 17 th street northwest. they put the levee walls in place once a year to make sure it's in good work ing order. >> i've always likened it to a connect 4 game. you have the vertical posts and drop in the 27 aluminum panels which make up the wall. >> the levee is meant to prevent damage from high water like in 2006. the 17th street closure is between the washington monument and the world war ii memorial. it's one of lowest areas in the district. >>
