we have an interview from the wabc chopper pilot. let's listen. >> well i'm just going with what i'm watching here at the scene, you can take that injury count up to around 20, that's how many patients we count again on the ground, you can see on the stretchers and in wheelchairs, one other note in the rear of the boat we just saw them starting to come out with another injury there so injured people are still coming off of the boat. there's one and another just coming out the door. we saw at the front entrance of the boat firefighters and ems workers entering with empty stretchers so i would have to think there are still more injuries inside, again, it's an informal count that i'm doing from the air but right now counting the three that have just been taken out of the boat we can move that injury count to above 20, and probably closer to 23 or 24, that's the unofficial count i'm seeing from the air. >> it looks pretty serious with that big hole in the boat there. we don't know what caused the captain of this boat to run into the dock

joining me is wabc tv chief meteorologist lee goldberg. lee, you're in times square in new york.y chilly tonight. but tell me this. in all your time as a meteorologist have you a sense now that we are going through a genuine climactic change in the weather? >> well, you can't attribute one particular event like this to climate change. there's no way to deny that things have been supercharged. obviously, floods, hurricane sandy, droughts, extreme chill. whether it's a cyclical thing where we're going to turn this around in 10 or 20 years or we're on a one-way path yet to be seen. >> we've seen very extreme heat this summer, pretty extreme cold going on now. we've seen hurricanes sweeping through new york, which i experienced. and it was pretty dramatic when it happened. it caused a lot of damage. the critics against this say, well, look, this has gone on for centuries and millenniums. there's always been freakish periods of weather and it's no different now. what do you say to that? >> i don't think there's any question i think you're better off looking -- >> i think lee goldberg

stacey sager of new york's wabc reports. >> reporter: they are every bit the typical 5-year-old girlsexcept little alexa did something extraordinary. she saved her mother's life. >> i never realized just how serious something like this could be. until now. >> reporter: suzanne bono tells us she and her daughters hadn't felt very home for days. suzanne, cooking on three different burners, when suddenly she was overcome. she fell to the floor like this. her daughter, michaela trying to wake her, drawing her pictures to make her better. then little alexa sprang into action and knew just who to call. >> reporter: you called your grandma, right? >> yes. >> reporter: the girl's grandma got here and was so upset on the phone with 911, alexa saved the day again. >> she said, grandma, our address is and then told us the address. >> reporter: suzanne's carbon monoxide alarm did go off, but it was late, after she was already passed out. they were all treated here at the medical center, where doctors say both girls also had elevated levels of carbon monoxide. >> it could have been much worse for

. >> we're looking at some pictures from our affiliate wabc, looks to be some -- i see some stripes, crews there on the scene. do we know, this is sort of a later lunch hour, i don't know how many people were out and about in the area, what did you -- did you see the moment when it crashed? >> i live nearby. and i heard the crash. and it was -- it lasted probably three or four, five seconds. there has been some construction, so at first i thought it was just construction but it kept going and kept going and so i ran to my window, and saw the crane crumpled on top of the construction site. i saw probably 30, 40 construction workers running away from the scene. and then grabbed my camera and came back and in that couple of seconds, they were running back to the scene because there were people trapped and so you could, you know, they were rushing to help their co-workers. what i see on the street now, there is probably 30 or 40 emergency units. i've seen at least three people get into ambulances, stretchers. i saw a stretcher at one point right by where the crane hit. and so it looked l
