i will say that i think the battle at fort wagner, july teen 63 was a turning point.isaster for the union, but it proved to northern and southern audiences alike that black men could fight bravely and die bravely for the union cause. i do think some of the accounts of that program that circulated in the national press, including places like harpers, and lithographs with depictions of the siege and the death of colonel shaw, i think that even helped turn much of the people towards a more positive view that blackmon could fight bravery and help the union cause. i will say before moving on, one newspaper that i read years ago was the boston pilot, and it had amazingly anti black, anti republican, anti lincoln sentiment. it aláz took aim at new bedford massachusetts, several times referred to as the -- the boston pilot who was very racist in its views, and yet, they put forth some of these same arguments for citizenship and equality and valor of irish american troops, as did the african-american press. so there is some amazing parallels, in my view, between with the bosto

joining us now, kurt wagner, who covers facebook and twitter for us.t, what is the significance of these qanon accounts getting banned? we know that facebook and twitter have been trying to ban more accounts like this. but this seems like a sizable number. kurt: it is. 70,000 is, you know, that's a lot of people, or a lot of accounts. i think this comes back to what happened last week at the capital. obviously, there were a number of protesters that were linked to qanon. there was a lot of discussion online linked to qanon and the protests, or the riots. so i think this is really twitter trying to protect itself, really, and prevent this from happening again. i think there is discussion that there could be more riots in the inauguration, or in d.c. in the weeks leading up to the inauguration. i really think this is just an extension of things that had happened last week and, as you pointed out, both facebook and twitter have already said qanon should not really be allowed on their platform. so this is furthering those policies. emily: twitter shares ha

i want to just come back to you alex wagner on your point about really decades, generations of work bylead to tonight. and i wonder if there is anything that you saw in steve's early report that gives you me indication of how that has gone? >> well, look, i talked to the campaigns about how they're looking at these early numbers and they have their own math. their going to be looking intently at trump areas of the state to see what those numbers are. because i think internally they have a number that they think is democratic votes that have come in early. and they want to know how that tallies against what happens in parts of the state that don't favor the democrats, right. they think they know where the baseline is at. at this point, nobody in any campaign believes this is a short night. they think it is a long night. we're talking about multiple changes of clothes, maybe not for steve kornacki because he loves those khakis. but there is no polling in georgia for a runoff election and even the polling that we had in november was not that reliable. so i do want to touch on something th
