there are folks -- >> i'm in the immediate area of waikiki beach. i'm literally two blocks off on seaside avenue, which is, forgive me, the main strip road. i can't actually see that road. that's the first road that comes off of the beach there so i can't tell you what the activity is like from my vantage point. on the side streets i see a couple of people here and there just kind of walking down the street. i hope they're not walking to the edge of the water but i can only presume they're heading to the beach. hopefully maybe just back to their hotel and up high. i honestly can't see from this vantage point. >> i'll be honest with you, since we've been covering this in the past hour we have seen a girl who was wading in the water. i believe we even saw a man swimming at one point. there was a man down at the shore with a flashlight. so it doesn't look like people are necessarily heeding the warning even though it's something that people have to be well aware of that just because the firsts wave has come in and it hasn't been as big as they expected

tonight from waikiki where dozens of people were gathered along the shoreline, along the famous waikiki beachnking they would take pictures or perhaps see something as the waves came in even though the city officials said that everyone should be evacuated and away from all shorelines by 10:00 p.m. local time and that the first waves were supposed to hit here around 10:30. some people were not heeding those warnings. but by and large people are heeding those warnings and have he headed for higher ground tonight causing traffic tie-ups all over the island in certain areas as people tried to drive out of low-lying areas and head to higher ground, veronica. we also heard, interestingly enough, that there were a number of traffic accidents. none of them serious, but we did have at least a half dozen or more traffic accidents all over the island that the paramedics said were most likely the result of people distracted by the evacuation and trying to head for higher ground. but at this point we're waiting and we're seeing those first waves were not too big and they say the problem is sometimes the f

beach. i'm actually up here by waikiki elementary school where there are about a dozen police officers linedp. all the police cars are lined up along paki avenue. a lot of these officers are actually from the waikiki substation. that place is all locked down. all the the first responders have moved back. this is where everybody's staging, waiting for the all clear. i did actually talk to a couple of homeless people who were on the beach. they heard the sirens. and they packed up all their things and moved up to higher ground. >> all right. kitv's coverage there in hawaii. tsunami warnings still going on. they've seen four waves. about a foot and a half, not the three to six feet waves that they had predicted. that's the good news. but it's been an interesting night for the folks there in hawaii who live there and all the tourists who are there. big party weekend in hawaii. saturday night before halloween. one party had 15,000 people near the beach. they had to get up and get out of the way. everyone had one hour to evacuate and get to higher ground just in case this tsunami did generate the

just recently, it was downgraded a little while ago and only small waves are now hitting waikiki beach. there is still a tsunami advisory for northern california this morning. >>> in northwest dc, metro says two buses were involved in a crash with a cadillac. metro says the car was being chase the by dc place. a metro spokesperson told us one hit at in graham street last night, then spun around and hit another bus traveling in the opposite direction. the buses did not hit each other. there were 10 passengers injured on those buses. none of the injuries are life threatening. and the bus drivers were not hurt. however, the man in the cadillac suffered leg injuries and was taken to howard university hospital. dc police say there was no chase, but that an npd sergeant witnessed the accident and tried to help on the scene. an investigation is continuing. >>> well, runners are lacing up and pounding the pavement for this morning's 37th annual marine corps marathon. it is the fifth biggest marathon in the country and the 9th largest in the world. we're going to take a live look right now at t
