police have identified the officer who fired the fatal shot as officer wakana okuma, a 13-year veteran of the department. >>> five people have contracted west nile virus in santa clara county. they are the first confirmed human cases of the disease so far this year. now the health department wants to alert people to take precautions. janine de la vega is live from san jose to tell us what researchers are finding and if people should be concerned. good afternoon, janine. >> reporter: we are here inside the lab at vector control in the county. now, this is the department that detects and abates illness in pests like mosquitoes as well as wildlife. they have been studying west nile virus. they are getting calls daily of dead birds possibly infected with the illness. vector control has had a record- breaking number year with the numbers of birds infected with west nile virus. 700 have been found in santa clara county. the prevariance of the disease has led to five contracting the illness. two never showed any symptoms but the other three were hospitalized. people over the age of 50 have a
