tom roussey takes us now to waldorf. hi, tom. >> just got off the phone with the maryland state highway administration. so often their problem areas are in the western parts of the state. not this time, it is southern maryland. part of the reason they have been getting the most snow here, but also, look, the snow has layed completely on the road. the temperatures are in the teens, and the plows are battling against trying to get the snow off the roadway. but it is a tough battle. here is video from la plata of a car that was stuck in the median , could not get out. another vehicle that we saw on 301 in waldorf sliding down the street. that is an was able to write themselves. a number of folks having trouble. the plows are out, but it is a tough battle as the temperatures are so cold. most cars that we have seen have been able to get down the road ok. one of the reasons as we come back alive, this is one of the few areas untouched by the wind. we probably have roughly three inches or snow. i try to make the snowball, look

she's in waldorf there. it looks like a lot of snow behind you. >> reporter: we still have some very light snow falling a in the point. i have some pretty treacherous conditions out here in the waldorf area. caught up with a road crew here. they were behind me at the intersection here. you can see they finished with the bobcats cleaning up this intersection and they've now moved to the next intersection down there. they're scooping the snow and moving it out of the way. we saw large plows go through a while ago. also pushing the snow. we have really cold temperatures. so what we're seeing are snow packed roadways. it's the roads are just covered here. we're not seeing any pavement at all. the chemicals and the salt they normally put down that helps melt the snow. it's not working because it's too cold out. the chemocams aren't effective when the temperatures get below 20 which is what we have out here. we have about 16 degrees here in waldorf. the plows really have to do the brunt of the work here today. you

news 4's jackie bensen continues our team coverage in waldorf maryland where the slippery conditions are creating a major mess. jackie? >> reporter: doreen roads are snow covered. visibility is reduced and emergency crews have been going nonstop. there's no such thing as a snow delay when it comes to the business of saving lives. but the snow that blanketed charles county maryland tonight, forced volunteer firefighters to reduce to safe speeds to get to the scene of a townhouse fire in waldorf. a woman who lives in the home suffered what are described as nonlife-threatening burn injuries and was taken to a local hospital by ambulance. >> the weather did play a role in response times as units were taking their time and making sure they arrived safely in order to be effective here on the fire ground. >> reporter: as it began snowing around 4:30 p.m. road conditions deteriorated quickly. motorists on branch avenue and crane highway were forced to slow to a crawl. as the asphalt became snow covered and road markings disappeared. because it was so cold every snowflake stuck to the ground

jeanette reyes is in waldorf right where it happened. >> a man is recovering from several gunshot wounds after a domestic dispute quickly turned violent. the charles county sheriff's office says it received a call around 11:30 last night a woman reported that her ex-boyfriend who is armed with a gun and threatening to kill her. during that call the suspect was allegedly in another room looking for ammunition and officers arrived at the scene and ordered that man out of the house. a neighbor who witnessed all this tell us there were 16 to 18 officers responding. authorities say when the suspect walked out, he was armed with a shotgun. that suspect then demanded officers kill him. sources tell us the man was repeatedly asked to put his gun down. at some point, a veteran officer says he feared for his life and fired at least once hitting the suspect in the torso and legs. witnesses say he then yelled he shot me. he shot me. >> i've seen the house here that this happened to i've seen the people a couple of times and think they have kids. and it's shocking. i don't know how this can happen. >
