waldorf in charles county. going to send it across the river to alex limon who is live in virginia tonight. >> reporter: a little bit of good news out here. northern virginia it seems like most of the roads are in better condition, at least compared to places like maryland. you can see cars zipping along the key bridge here. bridges of course being one of the first places you typically see ice. but here in arlington, falls church area, so far no major problems. but i will tell you that the virginia department of transportation put out information saying they're already starting to see ice on the roads in places like loudoun county and they expect that to head our way. so things expected to get worse and this is why, take a look. you can see there is 3-4 inches of snow on the ground from that storm that hit us this morning. well, with the rain that's expected, it's going to melt a lot of this. i mean, it is fluffy powder that's going to melt right on to these roads and then that probably likely will stick and tu

tom fitzgerald joining us tonight from waldorf. how is it out there? >> reporter: you just heard caitlin talk about this. if you know this peninsula that makes up southern prince george's county, that makes up charles county and saint mary's county, you know that often many times when other areas get a lot of snow, they get less snow here because of the surrounding waters. that was not the case today. take a look at this right now. you heard caitlin talk about this. some of these snow totals, this came in at at least half a foot. 6-8 inches in some places that we've gotten reports of in saint mary's county. look at this video, we saw th today. the maryland state highway administration out in force today with these big snow plow trains, one of them had at least eight trucks going down route 301, all in a line, all spreading sand and salt out in anticipation of this freeze that could come tonight and trying to prevent all of these roads from turning into a skating rink. on the in these neighborhoods in waldorf today, people were frankly surprised by this

this is a picture of casey clayton waldorf. he's facing multiple charges including murder and grand larceny. what's the latest? >> reporter: well, gordon, pickens county sheriff rick clark said that walter waived his bond hearing which is why he's still over here in greenville. he was actually out on bond for a felony grand larceny charge when investigators say he shot and killed a man in the head, then stealing her car, leaving her for dead. today sheriff clark said they haven't yet nailed down a just that the two knew each other. they believe con was driven to that boat ramp off buck skin road where they say waldrop shot her once in the head around 3:30 a.m. sunday. now, sometime between then and last night when he was arrested, they say waldrop tried to conceal the car by spray painting it and sparking it at a greenville apartment complex off white horse road. investigators were tipped off about that car. when they were out inspecting it, waldrop showed up. they chased him a moment before detaining him. they inspected the ca

charles county police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened this afternoon in waldorf. a deputy approached a man who was allegedly acting suspiciously near the saint charles parkway. police say the man reached for his waste band and the deputy opened fire shooting the man twice. investigators say they found a handgun on the man after he was shot. he should be okay. the deputy is now on administrative leave while the investigation unfolds. and developing news from the district, the d.c. health department says three people have contracted the zika virus. we're told one of the patients is pregnant. in all the cases the people had traveled to countries impacted by the virus. fox5's tisha lewis joins us with the developing story. >>reporter: it's an evolving situation, that's how the district department of health describes the zika health h. they athey're monitoring the three cases here very closely. three d.c. residents, including a pregnant woman are diagnosed with the zika virus. they do see their healthcare provider, so we constantly monday their situation and make sure

in and around the waldorf area, around charles county, this is a severe thunderstorm moving up toward the north and east very rapidly, too. again, this one moving at 60 miles an hour. doreen? >> well, doug, before doreen, because she has a question that is important for folks who need some information, i want to know right now, are we getting all of conditions because we've got a combination of warm and cold air right next to each other? what's the temperature out there? what's it like? >> well, the amazing thing about that was we knew we'd see some warmer air come in. we were wondering how far west it would get. at 2:00 in the afternoon, it was 65 degrees at reagan national. at dulles, it was 43 degrees. so, in a difference of 20 miles, we saw a 25 or close to a 22-degree temperature difference in that time. so, we see very warm air along i-95 and eastward. that's where we predicted we would see the severe weather earlier today, and that's exactly what we're seeing. to the west of that, we haven't seen a whole lot, with the exception of parts of montgomery county, which got into some
