here's our wales correspondent sian lloyd.n vehicles across the severn estuary every year. but the tolls are described as a tax on welsh business. when the crossings return to public ownership next year, the charges will be scrapped. this haulage company based in newport says it will make a difference, but it also wants to see other improvements being made. more specifically, it would be a cost saving to us. we use the bridge probably ten, 12, 15 times a day. so that'll be a benefit to us. but we have to make sure that the infrastructure to support the increase in traffic that we're likely to see it in place to support it. just six months ago, the secretary of state for wales had planned to simply reduce the tolls, retaining a fee to fund the cost of maintaining the crossings. so who will pay for that now? ultimately, this is the uk taxpayer that's looking after an important part of infrastructure. it's a strategic piece of infrastructure that binds wales and england together. the clients in bristol have sold a small apartment
