you know, we have many city workers who have gone to school, who specifically design cities so they are walkable and work for people and there is substantial infrastructure to support the residents who live in those cities. and it pretty much eliminates in a very radical way that thoughtful development and work that many san franciscans have engaged in, in making neighborhood plans. and in being involved in the future of what our city looks like. and i thought we had so much debate. i think it drove supervisor tang crazy over home sf, but it was a worth while debate, it went on and on and you very thoughtfully, supervisor tang, got us all to a place we agreed. here is a package that allows for density and height, where we need more housing to be built, but captures back the value for affordable housing and this would eliminate home sf and make it a pointless piece of legislation. that doesn't make any sense to me. i could go on and on, but i'll spare my colleagues. i just want to say this piece of legislation, however well intentioned, is so fundamentally flawed that i believe it is absolutely n

[applause]. >> thank you, supervisor. it is always great to be here on walk to workday. this is now my eightth walk to workday, and elizabeth stamp reminded me that when we did this eight years ago, we walked from civic center to city hall and it was just the three of us, but it was great, and it has since grown every year. this issue has been an issue that i have long worked on. in fact, the very first hearing i called for when i joined the board of supervisors in 2011 was a pedestrian safety hearing, and it was while campaigning that i learned that more individuals in san francisco are killed by cars than by guns in san francisco. and these deaths and injuries are 100% preventible. so i was really proud to work with supervisor norman yee who i'll be introducing after

having been to hong kong and singapore, which are much more dense cities they still feel livable and walkable and they have a combination of a lot of, from the time you land in the airport you see nothing but highrises but at the same time you still see trees and greenery and in singapore there's a sense of calm. we have to be realistic about the future and we always complain about traffic congestion but if people can live here, right, if we can actually build enough housing where people to live here you would take cars off the road like in those cities. surprisingly traffic isn't as bad as you think it would be. it's actually rush hour in singapore, it didn't bad. which was surprising considering how dense it is. we have to be creative and we have to think about a vision and we often think that we're only san francisco is in the situation that we're in and you could be other areas in the world where they've done it effectively. we know it can be done we have to believe it can be done and not let old thinking limit us from reaching the potential of our future. >> thank you. >> do i have a sec

city. we saw a lot of information about the hunters point shipyard phase 2 plan, there is a lot to like about it, emulating thei e walkable neighborhoods, saving the fantastic buildings out there. the whole bulldoze and everything new, this was new redevelopment. and this is preserving a lot of the distinguished buildings out there. but i'm here to talk about the part of the plan that didn't get much coverage and that's the candlestick point portion. a lot of the hunters point, that's in the future. if you read the paper, 5,000 units of housing that were going to be built on the phase 2, the hunters point portion have been delayed indefinitely. i want to take you back to the earlier part of the meeting, housing, where do we build more housing? in the city, i think the answer is looking again at the candlestick portion, particularly the retail centre. they didn't show a lot of images about that, maybe they're embarrassed about it, and maybe they should be, because unlike this. there is a center, it's regional, automobile oriented retail, mostly single story that is going to occupy the candlestick portion. i look at the cit
