capitol correspondent eytan wallace reports. well, it's certainly not common to see the governor faced public pushback from members of his own party. but as pertains to newsom's proposed special session on oil. >> that's exactly what we're seeing. over the weekend. lawmakers officially wrapped up the 2024 legislative session sending more than 1000 bills to the governor's desk and returning to their districts for the next 3 months. but just as they wrapped up for the year, governor gavin newsom called on them to return to the capital sometime this fall for a special legislative session to regulate california's oil and gas industry. only the governor wants lawmakers to meet on and approve his proposal requiring oil refiners to maintain minimum fuel reserves. newsom argues doing so will result in more fuel supply, which in turn will lead to lower prices at the pump. in a statement, the governor said it should be common sense for gas refineries to plan ahead and backfill supplies when they down for maintenance to avoid price spikes.
