hernandez. >>> a close call in south bay as firefighters battled a fire on the southbound lane. the fires broke out around 1:30 and they went all the way to the sand wall. for a while, two lanes of traffic were closed so the fire trucks could have moreira to work. two people were rushed to the hospital with smoke inhalation. by late afternoon, the situation was under control. >>> you may have missed it. but hundreds of lightning strokes were recorded last night. a familiar scene all around the bay area. in so know ma county alone, there were more than 200 reported strikes with sparking small fires. some very strange weather for us here in the bay area. >> yeah. the storm system that produced the thunder and lightning is a result of some much cooler temperatures here across the bay area. when you think about it, we only average 0 to about 2 days of lightning like we had here this morning across the bay area. so very, very rare as we mentioned. you can see here from about 1:00 to 7:00 this morning that's the way it was. we have multiple lightning strikes we had a few areas of thunderstorms that did develop. now the storm system is still off to the south.
