if you went back 30 years ago when guys like walter mondale and michael dukakis were running as democratsthey weren't just winning in the 18th district of pennsylvania. they were winning landslides. mondale went by double digits. dukakis. why is that? you mentioned the democratic registration edge, almost a historical artifact. it was unions. blue collar. this part of the state traditionally we're talking about blue collar voters when you're talking washington, west moreland, green. what's been happening is two different trends over the last generation. the closer you get to pittsburgh and even into those suburbs, you're seeing trends in the age of trump in the special election, trends away from the election. more suburbans, college educated. get away from pittsburgh in the immediate suburbs and go to older areas in washington, westmoreland, the trend is strong toward the republicans away from ancestry home in the democratic party. that's what you're seeing tonight is what was once the democratic heart of pennsylvania in a lot of ways, that's the key to the republicans and saccone winning
