you can see the dorsal fin of a great white shark right behind that kayaker. the man is walterhe says at first he didn't notice that this 12-14 foot shark was right behind him until lifeguards and swimmers started yelling at him to get out of the water, and that's when he decided it was about time to bad l back to shore -- paddle back to shore as quick as he could. the beach was immediately closed to swimmers, has reopened since, but walter joins us live on the phone. sometimes, walter, pictures tell us everything we need to know, but probably not in this situation. what went through your mind when you turned around and saw that shark? >> to be honest with you, i was obviously very nervous, but all i could think of was to turn around and paddle. so that's, that's what i did. i wanted to make it to shore and get out of his territory. jenna: wow. what did he look like? >> what did he look like? it was a dark image, obviously. i didn't -- i didn't put a lot of time in it, to be honest with you. i couldn't see his head, so i had to assume it was underneath me. i could see the tail,
