let's bring in our janelle wang, who spoke with our infectious disease specialist about this decision. so what did dr. peter chin-hong have to say? >> yeah, dr. peter chin-hong of ucsf says it's not unusual a covid patient is discharged fairly soon after being diagnosed with covid, especially if they're doing well, which is what the president says he's doing. he's feeling very good and especially since the president has a full medical team at the white house. but it's the president's treatment that's sounding some alarms. the president received what dr. chin-hong calls the dream trio, an antibody cocktail similar to convalescent plasma, remdesivir, and the steroid dexamethasone. that combination is usually given to the sickest patients. dr. chin-hong says the antibody cocktail and remdesivir not really any serious consequences if you take it. but dexamethasone, that's baffling. is it harmful for somebody who has mild symptoms to be taking the steroid? >> so unlike convalescent plasma or an antibody cocktail, using steroids come with some side effects. so the side effects are it's an i

janelle wang joins us with more. we talk about this all the time, janelle. do i have the flu? do i have the coronavirus? there's a little bit of paranoia. >> well, it's hard to tell the difference. covid and the flu are very similar, so similar doctors say people with covid have flu-like symptoms. both are respiratory illnesses. both have symptoms including cough, fever, fatigue, muscle pain. but one clear distinction, covid patients, some of them experience loss of taste and smell before they feel sick. usually doctors can easily diagnose if you have the flu, but with the two illnesses so similar, you most likely have to take a test now to confirm if it's just the flu and not covid. both are deadly, but covid is deadlier, killing more than 200,000 people in the u.s. so far compared to the flu last year, which killed 22,000. now, taking this test and finding out which virus you have is important, so doctors can take the appropriate measures to treat you and protect others. >> there are new tests coming on the market which can rapidly distinguish between the two. flu diagnostic
