raided this morning by counter—terrorism police, the warrington home of a former activist from the extremesses across england and wales searched today. it's the home of christopher lythgoe who, along with five other men from north—west england, is suspected of still being a national action member and making what police called "significant threats" to individuals. in garforth, in leeds, a bomb disposal van arrived at the address of another suspect who'd been involved in national action before it was listed as a terrorist group. he's ashley bell who, along with four men from west yorkshire, wiltshire and swansea, is being held on suspicion of being a member of a banned organisation. although the arrests were the product of two separate investigations, they're all part of a national operation against suspected national action supporters by counter—terrorism police. it became illegal to be a member of national action last december when the home secretary, amber rudd, listed it as a terrorist organisation. the home office says it is virulently racist, anti—semitic and homophobic, that it reject

this happened earlier this morning near the corner of 54th and warrington avenue. police say the man was approached by a group of young men. they said they were robbing him. he tried to run away according to officers and that's when one of them fired shots in his direction hitting him in the back. police were on their way to an earlier robbery scene when the victim -- where the victim was badly pistol whipped. that happened just a few blocks away from where this assault happened. it's believed the same men committed both crimes. >> a horrible situation here, we're looking for the public's help. we're checking surveillance cameras at this point. >> when i last spoke to investigators, they told me they were still looking at suspects -- for the suspects. he candidly spoke about this crime, calling it horrible. both victims are being treated at presbyterian hospital. investigators tell us they will be here later this morning to interview the victims who were badly badly injured and not able to fully talk about their assault when they were at the scene. reporting live i
