from this morning's "washington journal," this is 45 minutes.ram. what does this mean? guest: that kind of group that i for 33 years ago. a few years ago, we merged with another group that is called g4s. it is the largest private security company in the world. it is multinational. my company is the largest private security company in pakistan. it three years ago, we took over 30% of pakistan. i became the chairman of both companies. host: when you say private security firm, who are you providing security for? guest: mainly to embassies, consulates, financial institutions, multinational companies. of around the country, we have a lot of clients that need protection. pakistan has not been good for the last two or three decades. it is a booming business. host:ñr you wrote an item called "countering insurgency and terrorism." it has become an epidemic in pakistan. to counter both this uprising. we have to deal with two insurgencies, one being the taliban in afghanistan, the other direct it toward terrorism within pakistan in the world in general. te

eastern. >> " washington journal" continues. host: congressman john spratt joins us, democrat from south carolina and budget committee chairman. let's talk about jobs. where the jobs in the president's budget? guest: of the president is proposing $100 billion this year in supplemental to support a number of job programs, first and foremost, to extend unemployment benefits. that is the very least we can do. and coupled that with cobra benefits, that is to say, the government pays two-thirds of the cost of doing and keeping the group insurance that the unemployed worker once had. that is the key piece of this particular budget. the other thing is stimulus, trying to pump up the lagging economy through infrastructure investments. it had not yet defined what it was going to be because the house passed a jobs bill, $154 billion. but the president is renewing a call for at least $100 billion this fiscal year. host: how do you think it will affect this district? guest: i have hired a national average unemployment. in particular we need

this is about 45 minutes. >> "washington journal" continues.ost: don peck is deputy managing editor for the atlantic and author of "house a new jobless era will transform america -- "how a new jobless era will transform america." you claim in your article that the new jobless era is just beginning. why is that? guest: are questions as to whether the economy will be able to continue to grow quickly. if economic growth continues at a strong pace, job growth must eventually follow. i think there are reasons to doubt that might happen. consumers are really incredibly indebted right now. the ratio of household gdp to economic are put is about 100% right now with the 65% in 1995. well is down, debt is up. consumers usually power the economy out of a recession, but there are some reasons to doubt that consumer demand is going to grow strongly in the near future. even if you assume, though, that economic growth will continue to be strong, it is reasonable to expect that there will be a fairly long like between that growth and job growth. -- a long lag
