that gives a sense of what the building will look like when it's erected right next to the washington monument. the cost of this building is a wonderful public/private partnership. the building it civil will cost $500 million, congress has committed to paying 50% and i'm committed to raising 50% of those costs. one of the joys of this building is that it's got this beautiful bronze skin that will be sort of glistening in the sun, but what's wonderful about it is that it has on it a certain patterning, a certain filigree, and what that is, is those are patterns based on african-american slaves crafts people in charleston and in new orleans who in the 19th century created beautiful iron work, so this in a way is a homage to those unnamed people who did so much to sort of build the united states. and then what i love about it is that usually when you go into a building on the mall, you're inside the building. what we want to do is recognize that you're on the mall, so we want to offer people wonderful vistas because this is going to be right next to the washington monument in the shadow of the wh

a beautiful picture of the washington monument. 34 degrees right now. good morning to you. i'm joe krebs. >> and i'm eun yang. welcome to "news 4" this morning for this thursday, february 9, 2012. this morning police are trying to figure out the motive behind a deadly shooting in riverdale. officers were called to the area around 10:15 last night. when they got there, they found a man shot. rescuers took him to the hospital. he died shortly after that. police have not made any arrests in this case. >>> this morning a paramedic is in the hospital after falling from a 385 overpass about two stories into a creek. paramedics were responding to a three-car crash in arlington. one of the men on the scene somehow fell from the overpass 20 feet below into four mile creek. alexandria's fire chief praised him for saying he put his life at his risk for his job. >> josh, like all of our medics, firefighters and colleagues do that every day, 24/7, 365. we hope that this never happens but sometimes unfortunately it does. >> he was taking to the washington medical center. it's not clear w

that's because this prime location on 14 rght street by the washington -- 14th street by the washington monument is said to be the last available piece of real estate on the washington mall. so certainly this could be the very last museum that we'll see and it's the closest that we'll see next to the washington monument as well. the african-american history and culture museum isn't slated to open its doors until 2015, but it's already raising concerns among other african- american museums across the country. there are 300 smaller black museums. directors there celebrate this great achievement, of course, but they do fear that the national museum may take away artifacts, funding and attraction from those smaller museums. however, the director of the national museum has pledged support all of those smaller museums and is hopeful the three million to 3.5 million visitors expected annually will just draw more attention to all african-american museums across the country. coming up in my next live report in a half-hour, i'll have a live interview with the museum's deputy director. she'll be joining us
