a gorgeous shot of the washington monument. we melted off so much of that snow this past weekend, hey, saturday was a pretty decent day too. we got into the 40s and then yesterday we got into the 50s. we are back to around 60 degrees this afternoon. our temperature will be 58 by 3:00, 57 still at 6:00. temperatures aren't going to fall off very quickly overnight tonight. some cloud cover will build in, during the overnight hours. that is going to help to keep temperatures from falling. as we head through the day, of course nice again both today and tonight and then the cloud cover increasing. but with those clouds will come some showers. we could see some showers by tuesday morning, but the more likely event is the tuesday afternoon and evening rain showers and some steadier rain is likely during the afternoon and early evening as well. right now we are up to 52 in leesburg and manassas. we are pretty much clear on satellite and radar. just some high clouds to the south of the immediate metro area. those showers to the north no

this today is where the washington monument since. there is a lovely little marker, as big as a carrier, that sits right about here. that marks the shore of the potomac. where it once was. you would look over the potomac river and look to the western bank of the river, but you are not looking at a bank, a sure. what you are doing is looking across the western expanse of the united states of america. the word we do not use in the same way today, as you well know, but a word that was used freely and happily in 1791 was "empire." america was to move westward. this was not conquest. but the expression, free expression, of a democratic people. the representative body, the legislative body of government sitting here, we would be able to look westward. in fact, you can still see a bit of that today, if you squint. let's look at the weather cam and we have the washington monument in the center of the screen and currentlydegrees. right now our 11:00 temperatures is milder than our high temperature was yesterday by a long shot. yesterday's high was only 30 degrees and a big improvement temperature-wise. today we got up 20 degrees warmer in the afternoon. and that still was below our average high for this time of year. we should be getting in the low 50s and we are finally going to get there tomorrow. when the weather headlines, we have mentioned it. daylight beginning tomorrow. and that means that sunset will be after 7:00 from tomorrow all the way through the fall so you can enjoy evenings outside when we warm up. it will feel like spring but not enough to dine outside. we will have to wait longer for that and maybe on wednesday if you can brave a chill you will see why coming up in the first alert seven-day forecast. we will keep it dry until at least tuesday. on satellite and radar the sprinkles over the mountains and this stuff is falling apart and it won't be an issue in the metro area. anyone from
