we welcome in the washington post deputy washington editor natalie jennings. natalie, thank you for joining us. >> great to be with so what are you going to be watching for the most out of the president's speech tonight. >> a couple of things and this is in that it's biden's first address to a joint session of congress. >> but it's going to be historic in that that the chamber will be historically empty. there's only going to be a fraction of the number of people normally in attendance there. about 200 attendees and there's going to be 2 women seated behind him for the first time the speaker of the house and the vice president of those women. so that will be interesting. optically to see otherwise we're going to be looking at how much you really 6, 2, pitch forward rather than talk about what he's accomplished so far in his time in office. it does feel like america is turning corner, so to speak, on coronavirus. that's obviously taking up a lot of his first 100 day agenda. now he goes to the part where he has to really work with congress to get done. what he w

these two cartoons are by -- dross for the washington post on the digital side and our political cartoonst are often animated gifts. she won the pulitzer prize back, i think it was in 2000 for her static political cartoons and has moved onto animation. and i think these were studies that ended for an animation that she created around the inauguration of obama. and and got a different style, she's not across stature, she actually went to cal arts and is a true animator and you can see it in her very strong line style that really stands out. she now works also on watercolor as well. the adams has a sort of special place in washington and his foreign particular. the first time i came into the bar was probably 17 years ago and a friend of mine brought me down here and you could still smoke and bars in washington. and this was a smoking door. this was a cigar bar. and we came in on a cold winter night and i had just moved to washington from the west coast and was fascinated by the culture of the city and you walked in here and there was this inversion layer of cigar smoke and all of these peop

"washington post" video reporter, sarah kalin. sarah, it's fantastic work. i learned a lot from it.put this reconstruction of that timeline together? >> yeah. so, thank you for having me. how we brought this video sync together is we did something called a visual timeline. so, we grabbed as much footage as we can of the east side and the west side of the capitol. and we put it in a visual timeline, by using time codes from videographers and, also, time codes from live-streams. we were able to bring that, all, together. and then, we were able to take the communications, the radio communications, from the washington's metropolitan police department. and pair it together, with the visual timeline. so, we were able to see what was happening. and also, hear, like, mpd commander robert glover requesting, 17 times, backup in 78 minutes. >> yeah. that -- that part of it is what i found really illuminating about this. obviously, you know, we have gone through a lot of footage on the program. and i have -- i've been, you know, through this a lot. hearing that match with those radio calls show
