coleagues that university of washington and coleagues have looked at snow courses across the west, and looked that april one measurement from snow courses and reconciled that there has been a trend in the april one water content which red here is a trend towards lower amounts, the blue is higher. you can see most all of the elevations except the really high ones in california and some of the southern rockies have lost snow on april first - about 75 percent of the snow courses are showing this decline. when you map out these declines, this is this plotted - the trend is plotted from negative to the left and positive to the right that bottom there and elevation is traced on the vertical scale here, so lower is down and higher is up and lower is warming and higher is cooler - you can see the larger losses, of course are occurring to lower to middle elevations in our western areas and that makes sense. those are the areas closer to the freezing level. mr.noels, conducted a study of precipitation gauges across the west where first of all, climate wise these have been ones that have received

hoped we would see more flows in the river but if you look at the study recently out of university of washington, one has to have a pessimistic outlook on what future flows look like in the colorado river. my colleague marty produced one as well. that show as 50 percent reduction by 2030. i'm not sure i believe that but if you think the river is going to get more water, you might be living in, la la, land. two problems. one in lower basin and one in higher basin. if you look that bottom line the net balance is a minus one point 4 million acre feet per year. that's going in there on average and that's not doing to change in lake, powell, and the out flows are 14 million acre feed with that in that system , it doesn't take long to see you will have a problem with average hydraulics. in my state there's this great terror that something called, a compact call will occur. basically it means section 3d, will be violated and it will fail to deliver this feed in ten years. when your denver water or other utilities that are in case 70 dependent in some cases on water, a notion of a contact call strikes t

in 2002 through the university of washington through richard palmer and margaret hahn, i won't go over that now dash maybe later. next slide. a couple mayor studies we conducted is a reduction of our snow pact. the bowling watershed is not a rich environment. we do regularly get snow fall and our highest elevation in there is about 2500 feet. what we do have is a dotted line showing our regular run off of the streams in the and the dark line shows projected what would happen without the snow fall. it's not particularly significant for our municipal supply. one of these reasons is for the late spring rain period. what we typically see is the snow fall that does shed is scoured out in late april and may site has a much bigger impact on our fish flows potentially. another thing the palmer study gave us was effect on our projected demand. you can see the higher line represents what we think would happen based on the climate change effect and that's 8 percent bump over norms in 2040. so a climate change enhanced version. the footnotes of this slide is since we conducted this study and this
