after three recent burglary convictions. 34-year-old curtis tomlinson was sentenced in washoe county court last thursday. he was convicted of burglarizing businesses in reno and sparks. tomlinson also had a dozen prior convictions in three states. he will have to serve a before he is eligble for parole. nevada is one step closer to increasing the state's minimum wage. district judge james wilson sided with minimum wage hike supporters yesterday -- ruling the petition language doesn't need to be changed. las vegas and reno- sparks chambers of commerce oppose the proposal. nevada's minimum wage is 8-dollars and 25-cents an hour, or 7-25 if an employer offers health insurance. the measure would raise the rate to 9-25 an hour in 20-18 -- that number would increase 75-cents each year until it reaches 13-dollars in 20-24. keeping tahoe blue will be a little bit easier -- now that the tahoe restoration act passed committee. the tahoe restoration act would provide 415- million-dollars to help reduce wildfire threats, improve water clarity, jumpstart infrastructure projects, and combat invasi

in an effort to relieve overcrowding in washoe county schools, a committee is drafting a opinions on school funding in november. the "overcrowding and repair needs committee"- is made up of public and private groups-- and was created to look at the needs of washoe county public schools, and find solutions to meet them. the committee unanimously voted to create the ballot question for school funding. and the immediate concern is overcrowding. traci davis/wcsd superindent: what we wanted to avoid at all costs is double sessions. and we do not want kids at a bus stop when it is snowing at four in the morning, or kids free at noon cause they are out at noon without supervision. superintendent traci davis serves on the board, but she doesn't have voting power. the measure aims to raise at least 600-million dollars over a 9-year period. the committee says, pulling from multiple resources tends to anger more special interests, giving the ballot measure, less chance of survivial. and when it comes to nevada's education... a new report has ranked our state dead last.
