federal officer fires a weepon during a traffic stop in waterloo... yesterday at ten in the morning... members of the u-s marshals service werf trying to arrest someone in waterloo during a traffic stop... during the stop, a marshal fired his weapon, but their perp ran away -- and is still missing. a police chase ends with a car in the lake... it happened last night in evansdale... evansdale police say they saw a car at the nature trail bridge a little before three this morning. it seemed out of place, so they tried to pull the driver over -- and a chase started. the driver ended up in meyers lake, and was taken to the hospital. charges are pending. an area library is putting new procedures in place to avoid bedbugs... after the library is infested. dubuque had totoget rid of two couches and hundreds of newspapers after bedbugs were found in a reading area. the area's okay now after professionals came in with chemicals and steam cleaners. the library plans to more thoroughly check returned items -- and inspect furniture on a weekly basis.... city coun

waterloo police responded to a report of gunfire... at randolph street and weses7th street last night at 10:45. when they arrived, several people ran from the area. officers chased them and arrested a man in the 600 block of wellington street. police searched the scene and found a gun in the street. they didn't find any evidence of damage. and no one was hurt. police arrested 22- year-old vincent harrington. he is being held on an outstanding warrant in the black hawk county jail. there's good news for iowa homeowners this holiday season. home values continue to re across the state. it varies a little from city to city. but the highest increase was in iowa city y the federal housing finance agency says home prices are up about 3 and a half percent in iowa city. cedar rapids prices are up nearly 1 and a half percent, and in dubuque. one cedar rapids realtor says eastern iowa's market is different than other parts of the u-s. their hands full in waterloo as s ey responded to overnight. around 4 o'clock this morning, waterloo police say they responded to the 400 block of elm street. witnesses told police they heard four gun shots. police say they found one shell casing on the 500 block of elm street. authorities have no hurt. right before that call, police say they went t t the zero-zero block of sycamore street around 3:15 this morning. authorities said people heard seven gun shots in tha area. when police arrived on scene they saw a fight hahapening. finalal, police say around 2:55 this morning, they got a report of five gun shots near the 15- hundred block of sycamore. when police arrived, they found a crowd of pele at the scene. police made no arrests in any of thehe calls, and no injuries were reported. all of this, as waterloo police are still investigating a shooting that happened christmas night. officials say this happened in the 100 block of lafayette street. that's just east of downtown. no one was injured, but police say a bullet hit a porch window. offic

waterloo voters also filled the city council seat in ward four. jerome amos junior is the winner with nearly 900 votes. chris schwartz had around 600 votes. amos will replace quentin hart, who won yesterday's run-off for waterloo mayor. and in cedar falls, businessman jim brown received overwhelming support for mayor. he got about 75 percent support, with about 35- hundred votes. while incumbent jon crews received 143 votes. and david halterman had about 1-thousand votes as a write-in candidate. mayor crews had urged people to vote for brown in yesterday's runoff. he decided to step down from the end of the year. but his name was still on the runoff ballot. mayor crews has served cedar falls for 30 of the last 44 years. police in des moines have a suspect in custody this morning for a double homicide. and that's after a standoff with authorities late last night on a highway. dallas county authorities closed down several miles of highway 141 last night when they found a car matching the description of the murder suspect's minivan. michael wanchanic
