watertown, another spot off of lake ontario that has been already dealing with multiple feet of snow on the ground. i mean, we're talking about three feet down already from erie up to some of those southern suburbs of buffalo, watertown. and we can still get another foot, two feet as we go through the next day or two, because the lake effect snow machine won't stop some totals are already well over 30in, 38in for parts of pennsylvania western new york, 46in. that is again nearing four feet. just incredible. so the alerts continue. the lake effect snow warnings have been extended through tuesday morning for some locations from cleveland again just south of buffalo and then watertown area as well, because we are still looking at an additional 12 to 20in of snow, especially around erie going into the next day or two. really not wrapping up until tuesday morning. so what's happening is, is we have these lake temperatures that are actually near record warm. the water is in the upper 40s, some lower 50s. now, that's not, you know jump in warm. right. but it is relatively much warmer than t

between watertown and syracuse, bradford and buffalo.n the connecticut highway. it happened in greenwich near the border with new york. the pilot reported problems. thankfully, no one on the ground was hurt. the highway was closed for several hours, though. the exact cause of that crash is under investigation. >>> there is new information this morning in the murder of united healthcare's ceo. police say they have a clearer picture on how the accused gunman evaded authorities for nearly a week. stephanie gosk joins us with the latest. stef, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, sheinelle. one of the mysteries in this case all along has been how he could have allegedly murdered someone in midtown manhattan and escaped new york city. the nypd said he had gotten on his e bike, went to a bus station and that's where they lost him. now the chief of detectives says instead of leaving from that bus station, he instead got on a subway and went back downtown before he left and got to pennsylvania. he then went to philadelphia, pittsburgh and ul

watertown. we have had many totals well over three feet. we have one total so far. that's over four feet, 49in in saybrook, ohio 41in for parts of western new york again, 39in other communities in ohio, just incredible to see the totals already. and we are still expecting another foot or so. i mean, look at that. erie. this is additional snow. could still be up to 12in or more through the next day, and a half. again, what's happening is we have this very cold air coming over the record warm lakes that picks up the moisture and then dumps the snow as it starts to go inland and it really doesn't stop until that cold wind stops again. the wind picks up the moisture, and then the snow just keeps going until that wind stops, which is why this lasts a long time 18 degrees right now in duluth, 26 degrees in chicago. wind chills in the teens and single digits in the northern plains, and the below freezing temperatures make it as far south as the gulf coast, where we have some freeze alerts in effect for northern florida. we're looking at temperatures below freezing even her

we've got intense snow bands also just south of watertown. i 81 also with some problems, so the road conditions are incredibly dangerous and treacherous because these bands are wind driven, so it's knocking down visibility and you already have three feet of snow on the ground well, more than three feet in a lot of locations from erie just to some of those southern suburbs of buffalo. watertown, a lot of these totals. again already over three feet, getting really close to four feet. we have one place, saybrook, ohio that is over four feet, 49in of snow. incredible just since thursday you've got totals again over to 38in parts of pennsylvania, 39in some communities in ohio. and we can still get another foot or so through the night tonight and into tomorrow as the lake effect snow bands continue to pump, because we'll keep those winds coming off of the lakes. what happens is you have this strong wind coming over the warmer lakes. that's why these warnings now continue through late monday and even tuesday morning in some locations, because that c

time lapse from adams to watertown. keep in mind those two locations are only separated by roughly ten miles. so this is the nature of lake effect snowfall. so we time lapse and kind of sped up the radar over the past weekend. and you can see these bands that set up with the wind that came right over the warm lake waters, and how localized that snow banding is. but where those bands set up, that's where we get the heaviest of snowfall. just south of buffalo. this is incredible. buffalo airport one inch orchard park, about ten miles to the south over two feet. so yeah that is incredible. and you don't want to be traveling along interstate 90. that's where they had stalled out vehicles. interstate 81 over eastern sections just downwind of lake ontario. there is still more snow to come as we continue with this northwesterly wind across portions of the great lakes. with another storm system approaching by the second half of this week, i'll leave you with this, kate. i mean, can you imagine waking up having to hunt and peck

but i mean look erie up south of buffalo, watertown, all of these totals again, well over three feet so far. saybrook, ohio is the winner 49in. that is over four feet of snow. the rest is still over three feet. getting closer to that four feet mark, but still 41in 38in. just incredible to see the amount of snow now the lake effect snow warnings continue through tuesday because you still get that cold air coming over the lakes that will continue to pump. some of these lake effect snow bands where we could still get another foot or so. what's happening is, is the lakes are actually near record warm. you have water temperatures in the upper 40s and lower 50s, which is relatively much warmer than that arctic cold air that's coming in over the lakes. so what happens is that cold air comes over the warmer water. it's able to pick up that moisture. then when all of that cold, moist air hits the terrain, it's forced to go up, which is what creates the snowstorms. it creates the thundersnow. and that's why the snow just doesn't stop, because it won't stop until that wind changes. and with the

so this is a sped up kind of a time lapse of somebody driving between the town of adams to watertown. this is in northwestern new york state. so watch how quickly we go from clear visibility to nearly complete whiteout conditions. and very treacherous on the roadways. this is the nature of lake effect snowfall. it is very hyper localized and it all is a matter of miles depending on who gets the worst and most snow. so here's an example that is 65.5in of snow just south of watertown that picked up several feet, but 65.5. yeah, that's nearly as high as this weatherman you can swim in that snow. it's so deep now. this is because of the wind direction, right? you can see the sped up radar over the past weekend and how they lined up these snow bands really just south of buffalo, where the airport only received a little over an inch. but just about ten miles to the south, over two feet of snow fell. is there more snow to come? yes, indeed. there are still the advisories in place across the great lakes as we continue with this northwesterly flow. good news, though, that interstate 90, which
