joining me now from the farming community of watsonville, california, scott cohen. i know this is a big community in the ag industry there. with very latinos making up 93% of the farm workers in the golden state. so what do you think that is going to mean for the nation's food supply? >> it's a source of concern, alex. the official word from the usda is that there have not been any food shortages at this point. the food supply nationwide is diverse and spread out enough. but it's a reason, another reason that advocates here say you should pay attention to the numbers from out here which are really striking. latinos make up about a third of the state's population. but nearly two-thirds of the cases and half of the covid-19 deaths by contrast, the white population about 36% of the statewide population but only 17% of the covid-19 cases. statewide, the cases, the tests coming back positive, about 6.5%. we spoke to a local clinic out here that caters to this community. and they say that they're looking at a positivity rate of 30%. they are really essential for the food

i was down y watsonville and santa clation s around the fires down there, the czu complex and the scuplex. the scu complex and santa clara right now is about 10% contained. while we're dealing with about 219,000 acres here in this complex, the lnu, that complex is about 229,000 acres. the reason i mark these two in points of contrast, 7% contained here, is these two fires represent two of the top 20 largest fires the state of california has had in recent memory, arguably in modern recorded history. there's been 20 epic wildfires in the state of california. this complex represents the tenth largest the complex scu represents the seventh largest that the state has ever had to battle. these fires again are stretching our resources, stressing our personnel. we have 12,000 firefighters actively working to suppress these larger complex fires. the larger cohort of fires represents about 20 to 25 fires. we talk in terms of the totality 560 fires. a lot of those are smaller fires, more remote. the larger complex fires that we're battling represents roughly two dozen fires that have required in
