wayne hay brings us this report. >> scenes of devastation here.learly the si is in disarray -- city is in disarray. people are wondering around wondering what to do in in many cases this is sinking in what has happened here when the storm swept through and the water, some 5 metres wide that came with it as well. people still very much in the early days searching for missing friends and family members. as mentioned in craig's report, people searching for food and water that they can get their hands on, and the military has been arriving here to the tacloban airport in bringing some supplies. at the moment it's not enough pt the airport where we are -- enough. the airport where we are is used as a makeshift command center, and is all-but destroyed. the runway, the tarmac is intact - the structures, buildings, control tower have been fairly well damaged. the command center is where the philippine military is basing itself at the moment. there's a long line of people here waiting to get their hands on some supplies that the soldiers have been bringing

wayne hay is in tacloban. >> people have been streaming into the airport here in tacloban city on monday as the military flights from areas such as the capital manila resumed, bringing in crucial aid for the people badly affected by the huge storm that has left this city, this area, in tatters. people have been coming here since first light trying to get their hands on items - food, water and something that they can use to build a shelter. most buildings in tacloban were completely destroyed by the storm or substantially damaged. a lot of the people who have been coming here want to leave. their homes have been destroyed or damaged and they want to get out of the area because there's nothing here for them. the flights, military flights that have been taking people away to nearby cebu or the capital city manila. people are saying they are not getting enough help in the city, not getting enough supplies in tacloban. one of the things the military will need to do is bring in body bags - so many dead and missing. a substantial search for the bodies, and for the missing has not really begun.

. >> our correspondent wayne hay is live for us at the airport on cebu island, a main distribution center for aid. what is the situation with aid arriving and its distribution? >> well, it's extremely busy here at cebu airport. there are military and civilian planes coming and going throughout the day, from countries, from the likes of new zealand, australia, malaysia, south korean planes have arrived and the netherlands. plenty of aid coming in here in the form of food, water, medical supply, items to make shelter for people who have been badly affected in the areas by typhoon typhoon haiyan, and things like water purification systems and generators. in those areas there is no running water, electricity and limited communication in the form of mobile phone signals in areas like tacloban city. so there has been a bit of a bottle neck in cebu, and in tacloban airport as well, getting it from these areas into the outlying places where the storms strike, but that also seems to be speeding up one week after the storm. still there are areas that have not seen any outside assistance. >> absolut

al jazeera's wayne hay spoke to us about how bad the acknowledge is, we talk about the relief efforts under way. >> we have set up so many people at tacloban airport, or what is left of it. the scene behind me is what is left of the main terminal building at the airport. luckily the tarmac remains largely undamaged. the runway is okay. so crucially the military has been able to fly in here at very regular intervals bringing in aid supplies to the people badly affected by that farm. they have been bringing in food, water, shelter, medical supplies as well. all day long we are seeing a steady stream of people coming to the airport, trying to get their hands on the supplies. also so many people want to leave here, because their houses have been so badly damaged or destroyed. there is nothing in tacloban for them so they are trying to get out of this area, get back to the capital city manila to safer parts of the philippines. it is raining at the moment, there's regular showers over the past few days, a lot of people are concerned about reports of another storm and the effect that has. >>

al jazeera's wayne hay has more from tacloban. >> there's so many casualties in tacloban the main hospital has no time to deal with the dead. patients are outside, doctors and nurses take a break in the fresh air. most worked long hours since the typhoon struck. inside there's no electricity and it's hot. the storm destroyed its main power generator. >> the ground floor was flooded. we had to bring the patients on the second floor. the roof are all destroyed. when it rain, it leaks. it's the only available space to keep the patient dry and safe. >> a small donated generator is enough to power one light bulb in the operating theatre, which is in need of a clean. drugs like tetanus shots are needed to treat injuries suffered during and since the typhoon. despite the challenges the hospital has not stopped taking patients. all things considered the hospital is coping well. the concern is the health situation could be about to get worse. in many areas a clean-up is far from beginning. debris lines the streets and in some places the only place for a wash is the water in the harbour, which is mo

wayne hay is there. >> the storm devastated a fairly large supermarket that collapsed with the storm wave and storm surge, desperation noaa now shown by the people who live -- now shown by people who live in takloban. food from the supermarket has been taken, people are focus on whatever else they can get their hands on, pick their way through the supermarket, are get food or water that is still in there. they're not getting quick enough from the government from the military, food water and shelter. if we come around here and you can see some of the desperate situations that people are in. people finding of what they can, to shelter in. many people wanting to leave takloban, taking advantage of those military flights and getting out. there are so many bodies still lining the streets around the city, some of them sitting uncovered, some have a sheet over them with a name scribbled over them. slowly but surely the authorities are going to the bodies and taking them to a central location in the city trying to identify them, once they have they are taking them to a mass grave for burial.

wayne hay reports from bangkok where the prime minister is begging the protesters to stop. >> security has been weak throughout the process. at the ministry of defense, military and police were well prepared. day by day the protesters made their presence felt at government ministries. when they arrived at defense headquarters they told those inside they were armed with trademark whistles and flowers. the goal to force the government out and introduce political reform. >> translation: we will not let this corrupt system hurt our country. if you ask me how long we can do this, we'll continue until the people get their victory. >> this was a symbolic visit. an attempt to show force. the target of the protesters anger survived a vote of no confidence. the result was never in double. prime minister yingluck shinawatra's party and coalition partners have a majority. there was speculation that the prime minister would resolve parliament and call an election, knowing she what her party would likely win again. she's ruled that out and has to look at other ways to end the protests. >> the prime

wayne hay reports from tacloban. >> as each day passes the scene at tacloban airport is more chaotics many try to leave the area because their homes were destroyed. here a makeshift medical center has been set up. there are sick people stilling outside, inside while people have faith for the flights, there has been a baby born and one person has died from illness, as far as we know, and outside here, why not the fence, you can see many waiting or the flights. each day thousands of people make a long walk from where they used to live here to the airport, to try to get on a military flight out of here to the capital manila or other areas nearby. there are only a certain number of flights and seats available. night-time they are not flying because of issues with safety. the runway lights cannot be turned on because of electricity issues. when the gates are closed and the last flight has gone for the day, there are scenes of desperation and anger by the people trying to leave the area because of the devastation caused by the storm. >> officials say small commercial planes can land and ta
