i want to start with wayne lapierre, if i may saying the nra supports a bill to get the records of thosecated mentally incompetent and dangerous into the background check system for gun dealers and better enforcement of federal laws and stronger penalties for illegal third-party purchases and gun trafficking. that is, i would think, a fairly impressive list of things, the nra supports. paul, can you -- and the brady campaign, then join hands with the nra on those issues? >> those are all basically things that need to be done, things we have pushed for, for years. i was happy after the virginia tech shootings that work -- work with the nra members to make sure we passed the bill to get more records into the background check system but with all of those things, unless we require background checks on all sales we are not going far enough. yes, they are talking about things that make sense and yes, they've talked about things in the past and wayne lapierre suppord universal background checks in 1999 and changed his mind apparently now but we need to make sure we do a back ground check on nea

i care what wayne lapierre thinks.hat is is going to be an interesting moment. >> it is a question that the republicans are going to have to answer. they want to be the party of ronald reagan or the party of wane lapierre and the decision they make will determine, if not, their future for the next decade, certainly the future in 2014. i do want to just push back a little bit on what "the daily news" says. this is not a soft gun deal. this is not nothing. this is huge. if you talk to people that really care about stopping gun violence in america, they will tell you that high capacity magazines and assault weapons, those are great steps if you can ban those weapons. those are more symbolic really than getting a background check system that is going to stop violent offenders. i think sam made this point yesterday. if anybody, mika, had told us a year ago that we were going to close the gun show loophole where terrorists could walk in and get an assault weapon and go out and kill americans, our internet sales where violent
