mary kay kleist at wbbm, thank you. it happened in western nevada at the mount ray ski resort near lake tahoe. mireya villarreal has the latest. >> reporter: the search for the missing skier ended today after crews found a body in 8 to 10 feet of snow. the 64 year old man was last seen on the jackpot chute, an expert slope that wasn't ready for skiers yet. on saturday as the storm moved in, officials say the avalanche danger was high. bob harmon with the washoe un skiers went around the gate and hiked to the top. >> this was a closed area and the skiers obviously made a decision that they wanted to make a run there. and obviously, it did not work out for the best. >> reporter: experts with the sierra avalanche center say the missing skier may have triggered the avalanche. the skier who escaped called for help but after more than two feet of snow fell, saturday's search was cut short. >> the skiers did not have safety gear on them like a search dogs who then lead crews to the body. elaine now the medical examiner's offic

meteorologist mary kay kleist is tracking the storms at wbbm in chicago. mary kay?>> elaine, already a half of foot of snow in parts of minnesota and wises business, now michigan getting the snow, also the northeast. in fact, winter weather advisories are up for the area in purple. areas in pink cold air rushing in on the north side of the system. we have moisture from the south all wrapping into that storm center. along the california coast a new system pulls in rain. the pacific northwest as well, rain at the shore fronts but then as you move inland snow through the theks 24 hours. also for the northeast we have snow moving through the daytime hours tomorrow. so future cast does show that the system during the day bringing rain and snow to the eastern sea board but finally in the evening pushing offshore. but it's going to be a mess for travel, really, along the eastern sea board. we could have some slick roads, some flight delays and even road closures with snow on the north end and icy mix there in the middle. then we're all bracing for the arctic blast tuesday

let's check in with meteorologist ed curran of our chicago station wbbm-tv.ood morning. >> reporter: good morning. we are taking a look at new england right now. we do have wintries up until sunday morning. future cast shows you the snow that moves in there tonight for new year's eve. south in the warmer temperatures, we have rain and down in new orleans, they could have flooding rains down there. 3 to 4 inches possible tonight. in los angeles, the rains are diminishing as we go into the nighttime hours and into tomorrow. the northwest, you see snow as the storm system begins and starts tracking across the country through the week. behind this, it pulls in colder air and sends the temperatures plummeting around the nation. today's high 25 in fargo and 39 in kansas city and 70 in dallas. by the time we get to thursday, 44 in dallas, 23 in kansas city, 4 degrees below zero in fargo. so get ready for the cold in the new year! >> fargo is getting hit hard. meteorologist ed curran of our chicago station wbbm continue tv, thank you. >> reporter: kennedy cousin mich

here is meteorologist ed curran of our chicago station wbbm-tv.morning. >> reporter: good morning. here is the rain in southern california moving down near san diego now. los angeles will see sunshine today. to the north of there, you can see all of the snow here. this is all part of that system we are talking about. we have winter weather advisories here and winter storm warnings in the pink. tomorrow is when we are really concerned as we have a blizzard warning up here in the dakotas sunday morning to monday morning. 6 to 12 inches of snow and driven by wind gusts to 55 miles per hour. east of there the weather will wa more mild, an ice storm and freezing rain on sunday as well. these hazards are on sunday. as is this. a severe weather hazard for sunday with thunderstorms that could reach severe levels, a slight chance of severe in the area you're looking at here. so some wild weather across the nation. be very careful. especially in those areas with a blizzard warning as travel could be very, very dangerous, if not impossible. alex? >> the weat

megan glaros of wbbm-tv is tracking the storm as it moves east. >> reporter: good morning.travel across the northern plains and into the great lakes. we either have wind advisories for parts of wisconsin, minnesota, and iowa and stretching back into the dakotas but even blizzard warnings still in effect for south and north dakota this morning. talking about intense snowfall. paired with intense winds. not a good combination for travel. whiteout conditions expected there. we also will have some locations dealing with ice potential across parts of wisconsin and minnesota, and combine all of this, travel will certainly be impacted in that area. that storm system progresses on off to the east throughout the course of the dayoday and finally clearing for folks across the northern plains and forcing rain and snow across the eastern seaboard. travel today is impacted in the areaha new york and new england and stretching into the northern plains. but part of the country gets a nice warm-up today. chicago hits 53. cleveland, 64, and dallas at 70. margaret? >> megan, thank you. >>> p
