let's have a look at forecast now from eric fisher, chief meteorologist at our boston station wbz.what's next? >> reporter: well, scott we've seen very significant snow for many areas here with this storm on president's day bringing up to a foot of snow just outside st. louis 8 inches in lexington plus a lot of freezing rain, memphis area and across southern tennessee causing a lot of issues. this snow moving up through the d.c. area tonight bringing some of the most significant snow they've seen there in quite a while, and some additional snowfall in southern new england where we've seen over 90 inches over the last three weeks. biggest totals tonight moving across virginia, the jackpot, at 12 to 18 additional inches. behind all this, arctic cold. it's not just the northeast but all of the central and eastern united states. as you look toward the mid-week high temps in chicago. same story in minneapolis and st. lucie stuck in the teens. that cold air moves into the southeast, as well and florida, northern florida, highs may not get out of the 30s. scott? >> pelley: eric fisher, wb

eric fisher is the chief meteorologist at our cbs station in boston, wbz. eric? >> reporter: well, scott, we're into historic territory now. we've seen the entire normal winter season worth of snow over the last ten days. some towns totalling more than 60 inches in that time, a record that hasn't been topped before. let's talk about where the storm is tonight. it's just starting to wrap up. we have a few hours yet still some heavy snow around eastern new england. during the overnight the whole storm starts the move out to sea. in terms of what's behind after the storm, it's all about the cold. the wind-chill is going subzero during the overnightment tomorrow morning out the door, all across the northeast into the great lakes subzero wind chills. so bitter air with a deep snowpack on the ground. unfortunately we can't tell you that this is all calming down because we're watching another storm as we head toward thursday that's going to be another coastal event, bringing heavy snow to the same areas that have seen so much. when you talk about the amount of school an

meteorologist eric fish e of our boston station wbz has more on the latest winter storm. >> well yet another southern storm under way here as we head through. winter storm warnings stretching from texas right across the north carolina. this is going to put dom some pretty significant snow. it starts this morning. dallas area and southern arkansas. by this evening it's tracking its way across mississippi, alabama, and georgia right around the commute time. birmingham, atlanta, right on the line. we could be talking significant snow in the city. heading overnight the snow overspreading north carolina. we'll see some of the biggest totals. it will be brushing the southern jersey area before it moves out to sea. snow totals we start to see this dark blue. we're talking up to six inches of snow potentially. you notice it comes right through the northern parts of mississippi, alabama, and georgia. here we could be talking over a half foot and certainly some totals in north carolina including around the triangle. it could be over 6 inches total before it departs. after it more snow moving i

let's bring in eric fisher now the chief meteorologist at our cbs station in boston wbz. eric more snow in the last three weeks than chicago's ever had in a winter? >> it's been unbelievable jim. and you could set your watch to it. almost every three days you can almost guarantee a storm in eastern new england. here we are again blizzard warnings for all of eastern new england, winter storm warnings to the west of it and the system just getting developed tonight. although we've seen our arctic front producing squalls around pennsylvania and ohio, the storm wraps up heading into tomorrow morning. that's when we see our strongest winds and blizzard conditions and it wraps up tomorrow night. the highest amounts of snow in the places that have seen the highest amounts in the last three weeks. the wind is what gets tout blizzard countryitary. some of the gusts could reach hurricane strength across outer cape cod. >> axelrod: i almost hate to ask but more snow on the way this week? >> there is, but in different spots. we're look across the south now. by late tomorrow and throug

he is the chief meteorologist at wbz-tv, the cbs station in boston.c, how much more can new england take? >> jim we are waving the white flag in new england unbelievable snow totals. four feet in boston in the last two weeks alone and we'll be measuring in feet again. the next storm sliding in, steadiest snow sunday and monday, and it will be impacting new york state and much of new england with more heavy snowfall. there aren't many places to put that additional snow. it is streaking out of canada. a couple of areas nearby boston could see up to to tweet before all is said and done. we are in historic territory here. the other issue is more cold coming next week. wel-below-average temperatures, maybe the coldest air of the season by the end of the week. while all this is happening, look at the rest of the country. it's spring fever 60 up to rapid city, south dadakota, 60s do washington d.c. so warmth in other areas of the states. >> axelrod: eric fisher with the storm forecast on both coasts. eric, thank you. heavy rain in california and the pacific

eric fisher is the chief meteorologist at our cbs boston station wbz. eric, what's coming next? >> well, scott, no one alive has seen this much snow in such a short amount of time in this boston area. the snow is three to five feet deep across much of the region and there is not much rest between this storm ending tonight and the next one arriving on thursday. let's take a look at what we're tracking. basically another clipper system will move to the coast and deepen very rapidly as we head late into thursday and thursday night. it's going to be a close call. if it happens quickly and brings significant snow and wind right back into the same areas that are digging out. a little later, further east, still plowable, but not a major event. this is a big storm to watch because frankly the region cannot take more snow, certainly not a major snow storm. behind that clipper, the cold. this time the cold gets all the way into the deep south. we'll talking well below average temperatures all the way down the gulf coast into thursday and friday. a that takes us into the weekend. so very l
