but this wasn't the first and not going to be the last hot day we have in this area. the pg&e spokesperson says the outages were in fact related to the heat. it was a different matter in the east bay. a squirrel there knocked out a transformer and left tens of thousands of people in the dark. a spokesperson for pg&e says the company was caught off guard by the spike in demand for power. they say people typically got home between 5:00 and 6:00 cranked up the ac and that collectively overloaded the system. but it also begs the question does the system actually have adequate capacity? and can it be trusted to relyably supply power to millions? >> we're always looking for ways to improve. yesterday was a learning lesson for us as well. we don't take any of this lightly. we understand how much people depend on us and we want to be and continue to be that reliable partner. >> these power outages happen all the time. you think it would be in the interest of the car company to build the redundancy in their system so these things wouldn't happen. >> pg&e says they were able to restor
