joining me now, bernie sanders campaign manager, jeff weaver.d lose her position? >> we need a chairperson at the democratic national committee who is going to help bring the party together. we've had a vigorous primary and caucus season. it continues. we have to have a person who can bring the party together who is a unifier. >> can she? is she? >> i think there's been a pattern of misconduct over the course of this campaign. there were a limited number of debates scheduled on weekends. whether it was the joint fund-raising agreements, which were meant to funnel money up to the dnc. whether it was cutting off our campaign from its data or eliminating the number of sanders backers who were on some of the standing committee ss. i think there's been a pattern of behavior and most recently incendiary comments made after the nevada caucuses. >> you think she has her thumb on the scale against hillary clinton? >> she has it on the scale against senator sanders, no doubt about that. >> senator sanders has said this is a process going on the i.g. is do

>> it's interesting, i spoke to jeff weaver and other campaign aides about that question. what does it mean that they're not spending as much money? the fundraising, the numbers are up this month. kind of cut in half after senator sanders faced big losses. but i think they are confident in their strategy, we are talking about state director, who just left. and the state director is coming in, a veteran of their campaign. he was in charge of iowa, in charge of their big upset win in michigan. and they really do believe he is their big dog and big gun to come in. and it is clearly because they feel that he has the trust of the senator to get things done. and the way that i'm told that, it's again, around the big rallies. and i spoke to senator sanders a week or two ago in a press conference, are you going to change your strategy and move away from these big rallies and go to other events and take a different approach to all-important states like california. and he said he will mainly focus on these big rallies. but again, he will target latinos specifically, perhaps the show

mayor weaver has a plan to fix the pipes in flint.nfortunately, because the states initially cut so many corners, it will end up being much more expensive now than it would have been to avert the disaster in the first place. but, the good news is, michigan does have the funds they can use from the federal government to help flint. [applause] the governor indicated that in his budget, he has put forward additional funds to replace the pipes, in order for it to happen, and i said this to the mayor and the governor, i have them both in my car, the beast. [laughter] i told them i would not let either of them out until we figured it out. had secret service surrounding everybody. [applause] but, what i said was, the city and the state and the federal government everybody will have , to work together to get this done. it is not going to happen overnight, but we have to get started. we have to get the money flowing. we have to work with our plumbers and pipefitters and also train local residents, and start getting apprenticeship programs goin

and december sigspite new evide it's hurting hillary clinton, jeff weaver indicated today that sanders even endorsing clinton. just 66% say they're with clinton, 17% evof them plan to support donald trump. in 2008, just 21% felt that the drawn out race was good for the party. sanders also scoring a win dw d today. he will get five seats on the platform drafting committee for the convention. clinton will get six seats on that panel. here with me now, the guy who knows about polling, joel pbe benes beneson. there is room for hillary clinton to grow. is this a particular challenge? a lot of the sanders voters are not regular organization democrats. they're independents, outside the party. how do you bring them in? >> i think it's important to remember that in 2008, at this points your poll had barack obama ahead of mccain by two points and hillary clinton the reverse, 60% said they wouldn't support barack obama. in the end we unified the party. we have work to do. >> is it a different challenge this time. they were part of the democratic infrastructure. sanders supporters are outside the

thank you jeff weaver. i don't know what i learned tonight. this guy is a little difficult. steve mcman, thank you. could my home state of pennsylvania tip the scales? i've been wondering and jacob is going to have to find out. he heads to steel country to see what voters are thinking and feeling about this race for the white house. not too shocking but disturbing if you're a progressive democrat. this is "hardball" the place for politics. >>> i'm melissa. >>> welcome back to "hardball." the state of pennsylvania is hyped as a battle ground and cast votes for the democratic candidate in the last six elections. the last time pennsylvania went red was when george herbert walker bush ran for president back in 1988. yet, there are new signs this time that the keystone state could be up for grabs again in 2016. msnbc jacob visited a former industrial town in western pennsylvania that seen a great deal of hardship. here is what he found. >> these trains and this town would once reliably deliver steel and politics but times have changed and this blue state could possibly turn red.
