want to thank fremont california mayor for organizing this webinar on this very serious and timely topic. on one hand it's a real honor that the united states conference of mayors is a plot form to speak out against hate and determination of any kind. on the other hand it's just that we have to do this way too often here in this country so whenever any type of form of hate or determination appears the people of america can depend on the u.s. conference of mayors to speak out. we talk about march 16, 8 people were killed in and around atlanta in six of them women of asian descent. on monday a 65 -year-old latina was brutally attacked in new york and was told she did not belong here by her attacker, nonsense. the men who witnessed the attack stood by and did not intervene or do anything. this is all makes your blood boil and makes your mouth file when you see this and it's infuriating and disgusting and totally unacceptable. unfortunately, it is nothing new. such acts against asian americans and pacific islanders have been increasing and becoming all too common in our country today. one wa

it's what you hear on a webinar when you're talking to somebody part is what you see written. it was easy for me to it get frustrated with a lot of what i heard coming out of schools of education. a lot of the way people talk about inequity and issues of race. and at a got level i am as frustrated by where they are going as i'm sure they are going by the things they are objecting to. for me the thing that was so grounding about talking to pedro was pager on a particle he said things need to change rate that's fine. we agreed a little bit more about some of them expected. pager was not interested in trying to cancel shakespeare. or try to cancel to kill a mockingbird. when i would talk about the smithsonian last summer saying that working hard is right pager would say i'm not going to defend that. when work hard be nice and this was bathed in white supremacy. pager center not going to defend that. so one of the things are so heartening for me is that pedro again i do not want to put words in your mouth is certainly pushback if i mischaracterize. it felt to me that pager was mak

we are also hosting a webinar for folks tomorrow who want to host a pop-up clinic. but if we take a hard look at the data and observe the spread of the variance, we all need to go above and beyond the rules we already have in place. we have to step up our game the next two weeks to bring down rising cases and that is why i am calling on high schools to voluntarily go remote for two weeks past spring break. calling on youth sports to voluntarily suspend games and practices for two weeks. and strongly encouraging all michiganders to avoid dining indoors and avoid gathering with friends indoors for two weeks. support your local restaurants by eating outside or getting carry-out instead of dining indoors. opt for small outdoor gatherings with masks. to be very clear, these are not orders, mandates are requirements. we all know what works. this has to be a team effort. we have to do this together. lives depend on it. we have to fight back against the covid-19 variants. we have to get vaccinated to keep you and your family safe. we are going to have tough weeks ahead, so
