the read on that with my next guest, real clear politics reporter, phil wegman. an unusual alliance on the left. bernie? no. but those views are extreme for them? >> it's not just voting rights here. this is the latest thing. you've got to remember that bernie sanders has a lot of baggage that democrats know republicans and president trump are going to exploit. this is bernie sanders that wrote some pretty creepy things in the 1970s. bernie sanders that traveled to the ussr and praised the russian government there. and bernie sanders, the democratic socialist that became a millionaire with his book sales. people frustrated with hillary clinton, they can swallow that. the question is whether or not that swing votener a general election will look the other way. right now i think democrats are worried because until biden gets in, bernie sanders is the undisputed frontrunner. >> neil: i thought he was more the populous cup of tea than joe biden would ever be. and now the environment has changed. there's more candidates. younger hipper versions of what he's espoused.

"real clear politics" reporter phil wegman and "axios" reporter kaitlin owens. kaitlin, again we know clearly what the president wants. he wants a wall, tougher change in the asylum. what do democrats want? >> we have a situation here where democrats are acknowledging, they're saying that, yes, there are a lot of children and families now, increasing numbers coming to the border. you're seeing talk about aid to central america, to fix some problems they say are driving immigrants here. you also see a lot of democrats talk about a pathway to citizenship for those undocumented in the country currentlily. as far as addressing the problem that is actually happening currently at the bourne border to deal with all the people coming in, already here, the system is not built to handle, we're not seeing a lot of solutions on that front from democrats. what the trump administration has done so far hasn't solved the problem either. we're kind of in, no one seems to know how to go forward here. david: phil, one thing is clear, a lot of people are coming here because of the
