weijia jiang tells us how the chaotic scene all unfolded. weijia? >> reporter: andrea, there are still several unanswered questions about this accident. but tonight, we can tell you, police say it all happened because a car was traveling in the wrong direction on the highway. this road appears to be ordinary. but just hours before, around 3:30 a.m. saturday -- >> it was a horrific morning. >> reporter: four people lost their lives on route 50 east at maryland 424 in davidsonville. >> this vehicle that was traveling westbound, eastbound route 50, carrying three passengers, struck head-on, a single-passenger vehicle. >> reporter: police identified the three people inside this same car as 18-year-olds briana franco and intrakary rhodes and 19-- zachary rhodes and 19-year- old britney walker. just moments before, police received a call that a driver was going the wrong way on 50. but before police arrived, it had already crashed, causing a fire. three people were pronounced dead on the scene. another en route to the hospital. eastbound 50 was shut down

thank you, weijia. police say a few hours earlier, callers also reported a driver going the wrong way on i-97. they're investigating whether it was the same car. >>> an annapolis teen remains in the hospital tonight, after a brutal fight at a high school. witnesses say dozens of students fought as two teens fought across the street from broad neck high school yesterday. by the time police arrived, an 18-year-old student was having a seizure. he is now at shock trauma, in serious condition. police haven't filed charges yet against the 15-year-old involved in the fight. >>> prince george's county police are now trying to figure out how a dead body got in a 20- foot deep well. authorities say they received a tip about the well behind an unoccupied home in fort washington on thursday. police don't know how long the body has been there or who it is. there is speculation, though, that it may be a missing activist, from northern virginia, whose phone was discovered near the well last september. >>> a laurel ma

weijia? >> reporter: police say after he waited for several days, that man finally turned himself in this morning, for something they say could have killed that trooper. police say 30-year-old matthewwood plowed into a state trooper with his car, then sped away. >> we've lost troopers in the line of duty, on traffic stops, in situations just like this. >> reporter: it happened on sunday at 1:20 in the morning. the trooper was stopped on northbound i-83 when police saywood sideswiped him, a dangerous yet all too familiar scene. in june, 27-year-old theresa rigby, a bolt more city officer, was nearly killed when a car slammed into her. in fact, authorities were hit so often on the road, maryland enforced a new law last fall. drivers are required to move over or slow down when emergency vehicles are stopped. drivers say they move over when they can, but sometimes there's nowhere to go. >> i will stop on the brakes until i'm sure that my car has enough space to maneuver in between, and then i mov
