scientists analyzed the fibers found on wendy evans' body.iber specialist jerry serino discovered most were nylon but a few were made of polyester, all were triangular or trilobal in shape and all were dyed with the same chemical, pink. but this positive news didn't come in time to save another life. on january 18th, 1996, there was a fourth victim. 27-year-old cindy pugh, who had recently moved to clearwater from maine was beaten, strangled to death, and her body dumped in an industrial area near a dumpster. again, a luma lite was brought to the scene and again it revealed the pink fibers. >> i can say that these fibers from the two different cases could have originated from or could have shared a common source. i think after all of the examinations that i conducted that the fibers in these cases were very solid evidence. >> another unusual piece of evidence was what looked to be a piece of cigarette paper on cindy pugh's body. >> the piece of paper found on the breast of one of the victims that was about to blow off. it was barely sticking

>> her name, she tells cockrell, is wendy.ith a few details she provides, rescuers start to piece together the puzzle. >> we believe she was ejected out of the car, and she came straight out of the top. >> out of the top and directly under a concrete pipe used to build sewers and left on the side of the road overnight. it's with almost impeccable timing that the impact of the crash tips up the concrete pipe and wendy slides underneath. the pipe flops back down on top of her pinning her arms and legs in ground soft enough from overnight rain to cushion the impact. it's hard to believe, but she's alive and needs help desperately. >> it looked bad. everything led to serious injuries, everything you can see. >> wendy is wracked with pain. she has bad gashes on her face and head, and cockrell has another concern. >> she was real cold. both of her hands and her feet were blue from, i'm assuming, lack of circulation and the cold weather. >> now it's time to begin the delicate process of raising the heavy concrete cone off her body, b

we met wendy wick reaves, our speaker, in the early 1970's and we were impressed then. with her comfort and obvious affection for her specialty, american graphic arts. it is a pleasure to tell you a little bit about her. she is a leading authority in her field and the senior curator of prints and drawings at the smithsonian institution national portrait gallery. she earned her master's degree from the program in early american culture at the university of delaware. she is a member of the print council of america. in 1974, she started the graphic arts department at the national gallery and the collection she developed included fine print, rear books, drawings, cartoons caricatures, and postage. wendy has curated many exhibitions, lectured widely and served as the interim director of the national portrait gallery from june 2012 through march of 2013. her long-standing interest in george washington started with a traveling expedition of 18th-century printed portraits accompanied by her own book "george washington: american icon." she has authored books and published articl

>> reporter: good evening wendy. this water pipe burst actually affected several buildings downtown here near 10th and "f" street. most notably the historic fords theater. crews are downstairs in the basement trying to remove the water. and the basement is the home to the theater's museum. the museum is home to irreplaceable artifacts like the gun that fired the fatal shot that killed abraham lincoln as well as clothing worn by john wilkes booth and medical instruments that were used to treat booth. luckily the water didn't get high enough to damage the artifacts but the damage is bad enough to temporarily close the museum. >> the theater remains open, performances go on as scheduled. just the museum is affected. we don't have a projected time with when we'll be able to reopen. >> reporter: the closure comes as a disappointment to the nearly 1,000 visitors a day who come to this museum, and it comes as fords theater is preparing for the 150th anniversary of lincoln's assassination this april. again, the good news, if

graham: my name is wendy graham. i'm a professor and director of the water institute at university of florida. a very interesting place hydrologically. there's a lot of freshwater and a lot of people and a lot of land-use changes going on. well, the largest user of water in this region of florida is agriculture. and, in fact, in florida in general the largest user of freshwater is agriculture. but public water supply is a close second, and, in the not too distant future, i'm sure will catch up and overtake agriculture as the major user. i grew up in the bahamas. we lived on a little island, and we had our well here and then we had our septic tank here. and that proximity i always found kind of fascinating. and i'd spent most of my time out of doors. there weren't a lot of indoor distractions -- very few movie theaters, no shopping malls. so we spent our fridays and saturdays on sailboats in the ocean. and then we'd get home to shower, and the water would be off 'cause we only had water from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 in the a
