defense attorney rebecca rose woodland and career trial attorney wendy patrick. good to have you all with us. let's start with the president trying to bully the supreme court, wendy. i mean is this -- will they be tempted to sort of show him who's co-equal? >> well the good thing about the supreme court is they are not tempted in any way by either side. their goal is to follow the law and that's why they are where they are. but what's especially egregious about this particular case is it's a pending case. it's not even something that's already been resolved one way or another. president obama wouldn't be the first lawyer to disagree with something a judge does. but while the case is pending this even made the remarks even more inappropriate than they already were. >> what do you think? >> i agree. the supreme court is a separate body. >> co-equal. co-equal branch of government. >> co-equal. he is out of line by discussing a pending case. saying they shouldn't even have accepted the challenge, who is he to say that? they determine how they should. >> and he's sayi

joining me to talk about browder's case, cnn legal analyst mel robbins and prosecutor wendy patrick.he first reaction most people would have is how on earth is a 16-year-old sent to rikers for three years? isn't he a juvie? doesn't she some kind of protection from being in solitary? how on earth do we have a speedy trial right in the constitution and yet this happens? >> well, you know, yes to all of those thing, one would think. one of the things i want to focus on, ashleigh, because it was the bane of my existence when i was a public defender representing clients in the new york court system going to rikers almost every other week to visit clients to prepare for cases is the speedy trial rule. basically what the speedy trial rule says is that if you're charged with a felony in the state of new york, as he was, you have six months as a prosecutor to be ready for trial. but here's what happens. prosecutors show up in court and say "judge, we're ready." and the defense attorney says "judge, we're ready too but we don't have the evidence, they haven't turned it over." the judge says "o
