wendy rieger is live with more. >> the u.s. navy released a time line of alexis' past run ins with the law. take a look at this time line. officials say before he enlisted, the only run inwas in 2004 when he shot out the tires of a vehicle in seattle. no charges were filed. the neaf was aware, but the official report on his record, just says he deflated the tires of the car. no mention of a gun being used. 2008, alexis was issued a secret level security clearance good for ten years. from 08 to 09. 2010, arrested in ft. worth for shooting a gun in his apartment. after that incident, the navy began the process of discharging him. but, stopped because no charges were filed. four months later, 2011, alexis was granted an honorable discharge. we are starting to see that he had several run ins, but nusing that raised a big enough flag to warrant more severe punishments. from the live desk, wendy rieger, back to you. >>> the number of people sneaking across the u.s. border appears to be on the increase. according to a new study, 11.7

. >>> let's go to wendy rieger at the live desk with new details about the alexis murphy case in virginia. wendy? >> this is in connection with the disappearance of a 17-year-old missing since last month. today, a grand jury indicted 48-year-old randy taylor on two felony charges, one for the abduction of myrrh fi, the other for a theft of an atv. myrrh fi was last seen on video at a gas station august 3rd. taylor is insisting he wasn't the last person to be with her. earlier this week, a new person of interest was contacted in connection with the case. police are describing it as a normal lead and no specifics given. i'm wendy rieger, back to you. >>> we want to shift gear. first, the muppets took manhattan, now they are taking washington, d.c. today, the smithsonian received a huge piece of america's childhood. >> jim henson's daughter donated 20 puppets and props to the museum of history. tony tull has more. >> reporter: today is the anniversary of jim henson's birthday. that's why they picked this day. 20 puppets are going to be donated. we have bert and ernie and kos car the grouch.

good afternoon, i'm wendy rieger. >> i'm jim handly. we are covering a pair of stories out of northern virginia. a scary scene out of manassas and a high school student murdered. we are learning more about the teenager with strong ties to the catholic church. >> workers evacuated from a business after a tank exploded and launched itself through the roof. it happened at the utron company on innovation drive. the blast sent debris into the parking lot and made part of the building uninhabitable. julie carey is live on the scene. >> reporter: fire investigators, building inspectors still on the scene more than five hours after the pressurized capsule blasted off from inside the building causing lots and lots of damage. these pictures taken by chopper 4 give you an idea of the force of what was an explosion of sorts. a large pressurized air cylinder blew through the roof tearing a four foot wide hole before it fell back into the building, hitting a cooler unit causing more damage. they described the booming noise. >> i was sitting in my cub

wendy rieger has the latest. >> the rescue has been going on now more than two and a half hours. full disclosure, it's been so long, it's a delicate mission. our chopper 4 had to go get gas. this is video that we have been seeing for the last hour. at various times, ropes and boards brought in to help the worker who is trapped. we just learned the victim is 49 years old, frederick county fire and rescue, montgomery county fire and rescue. the sheriff's office are all working together this evening. they are digging out the mud around this man. we are told that when it caved in, it's created the equivalent of 1,000 pounds of pressure on his lower body. we'll keep monitoring this for you. we'll go back to live pictures as soon as the chopper gets gassed up and returns to the sky. back to you. >> thank you. >>> new details about the deadly siege on the shopping mall in kenya. the president says they have shamed and defeated the attackers. soldiers are still clearing the mall room by room. at least five terrorists died in gun battles with police.

i'm wendy rieger. >> and i'm jim handly. right now the senate foreign relations committee just approved president obama's request to use military force in the response to the use of chemical weapons. sec stair of state john kerry and other top officials were testifying before a house committee when the senate committee passed that resolution. three people in custody in connection with a deadly stabbing in texas today at a high school. it happened in spring high school outside houston. four students were stabbed. one of them died. the school is closed until further notice. and police are investigating if a uva student who died at a nightclub took the drug molly. when paramedics were performing cpr, swurn around her said she had taken molly. and came up on a bus from uva. the cause of her death has not yet been determined. >> a woman with an interesting ailment is missing in montgomery county. her name is hanna upp, and it's not the first time there's been a public search for her. news 4's megan mcgrath has more from kensingto
