kpix 5 reporter elizabeth wenger is at the scene of a deadly house fire. elizabeth, you just got new information about the toddler killed in the fire? >> reporter: we have confirmed that the toddler was a baby girl. 2.5 years old. in addition what makes this so sad is that it sounds like this family was doing everything right. the fire chief confirms that they had working smoke detectors when the fire broke out. the smoke detectors went off. and still two people weren't able to make it out alive. as you mentioned that 2.5-year- old girl and her father were both killed. the mother was able to get out the back door. she is okay. the grandfather is in the hospital right now. he is in critical condition. so the fire broke out around 1:30 this morning. firefighters arrived here in the sunset district 18th avenue near pacheco. they saw lots of smoke. firefighters believed the fire started on the ground level where the dad was sleeping. he was down there in an in-law unit. the mom smelled smoke and that's when she went downstairs discovered there was a for and sh

elizabeth wenger is at the evacuation center in clayton. but we begin with cate caugiran, who just spoke to fire officials. cate, what's the latest. >> reporter: michelle, we understand the first air tankers will be going up in the next couple of hours because the fire right now is growing towards the summit. we can actually see it peaking right now. maybe it's just a glow but we've seen flares come up over the mountain just basically in waves as it comes up and down now. this morning, more families are waking up unsure of the safeties of their homes. the -- the safety of their homes. the sheriff says 23 more homes were evacuated making it 100 homes in total. the fire is up to 1500, a of the cal fire says it's 10% contained with one minor injury to a firefighter. cal fire will be bringing in more firefighters so we are expecting about 500 on the line today. this is one of cal fire's highest priorities. the morgan fire was first reported yesterday afternoon off of morgan fire territory road right around 1:30 and immediately, mandatory evacua

kpix 5's elizabeth wenger has more. i know you just got an update from the police. what did they say? >> reporter: yeah, we literally just got out of this press conference. so this was a case of giants- dodgers rivalry. excuse me. giants, dodgers rivalry. kind of a reverse of the bryan stow case where of course he was severely hurt, a giants fan down at dodger stadium. so this was a similar thing that happened out here pretty close to at&t park. so i want to show you some exclusive video. we just got this. this is as investigators walked out of the police department with evidence from that stabbing. you will notice a giants hat in there. chief suhr was able to confirm that the suspect one of the suspects was wearing that giants hat. also, local neighbors in southern california were able to confirm that the victim, 24- year-old jonathan denver, this is his mugshot. this is taken several months ago. this is when he got a dui. we still don't know exactly where that victim, where mr. denver is from. but police have confirmed that he was killed. there are four suspects.

kpix 5's elizabeth wenger talked to neighbors who described smoke, fire and the efforts of emergency crews to get into that burning home. >> this is a neighborhood that looks after one another. so we feel really, really sad about this. >> reporter: that's why howard simon dropped off flowers this morning on his neighbor's burned-out front stoop. a fire killed a father and his 2.5-year-old daughter this morning. the medical examiner identified them as raymond and khloe shea. >> had a lot of flame and a huge amount of smoke. and really dark billowing smoke. >> we're all in shock, total horror. everybody was just standing around the corner, and it was surreal. >> reporter: the two-alarm fire broke out around 1:30 a.m. on the 1900 block of 18th avenue near pacheco. in addition to the father and toddler, a grandfather was also living at the moment. he is in very critical condition. a fourth person, the mother, was able to get out a back door and should be okay. firefighters say she works late and was likely the only person still awake when the fire broke out. >> everyone is hurting this m

kpix 5 reporter elizabeth wenger reports from the fairgrounds in antioch. >> reporter: so far no animals have been brought to the fairgrounds but i talk to the organizer. they are saying they could see some by later on this morning. this is a country area so a lot of people have horses, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, you name it and this fairgrounds is equipped to handle large and small animals. so as you mentioned about 75 homes, 75 families, have been evacuated because of the fire and smoke. additional evacuations came overnight. trail ride russelman park, east trail, upper trail and lower trail roads. since yesterday evacuations along oak hill lane, curry canyon road and the curry point area. so far only a handful of families is using the evacuation center at clayton library. evacuees we talked to say the fire was close but they are hopeful firefighters will gain the upper hand soon. >> we didn't see any flames. we saw a lot of smoke. we are thinking, you know, it's -- we were told about a quarter mile away. now, that seems a little close if the wind changes, it could be dangerous. but,

let's check traffic with elizabeth wenger. >> suddenly things are not looking too good. we in fact have two pretty bad accidents. i'll mention one here it is the traffic alert now out in vacaville but we have learned the person driving serious injuries not sure of the extent yet but it is eastbound 80 lagoon valley road. police are on scene so they believe lanes will be blocked for a half hour more and you can see no slowing on the sensors yet but i think that's going to change here any minute. southbound 880 at high street up to 20 cars on the shoulder with flat tires. there's some sort of debris in the road. chp can't say what it is but they were doing some roadwork along that stretch overnight. all the roadwork has cleared but there may have been something left behind not sure at this point. here's a live look farther south. this is near 66 and the oakland coliseum. everything appears to be okay down towards hayward and about 10 minutes ago they turned on the metering lights over at the bay bridge toll plaza. now we have delays at the overcrossings. that's the latest.
