we love west portal. in a former lifetime i was president of the greater west portal neighborhood association for four years and i remember the discussion -- you know, i think it's seven years that's been a vacancy on the avenue. and it was a ritz camera before. it's a little tiny store. the ncd, the west portal ncd was put in place, i think greater west portal neighborhood association had a hand in it in the '70s, my good friend howard strassner. there was an impression financial institutions are invading our neighborhood, we have to put a restriction on how many can come in. otherwise we'll lose the character of our neighborhood. that was done. and, you know, it's hard to imagine that the conditions that applied in the '70s are applicable now, especially as charles schwab, a bank, how do you define it? i think that the neighborhood is much more at risk or harmed by having a vacant store front for seven years than to bring in a willing tenant that's willing to participate in the community. the other thin

a little cooler north and west. we're getting that fog developing. 44 up in hagerstown this morning. we're watching the wind. this is why we're in the dealing with the fog we had yesterday. we have a cold front moving through later today and these winds are going to pick up. we'll have winds gusting maybe 20, 25 or even 30 miles per hour for a time later today. currently, wind are out of the west at about seven. six here in leonardtown. five out at dulles. let me mention once again, let me just emphasize the wind are going to be picking up as this front comes through. there is your satellite-radar. cloud cover to start your day. might get a peek or two of sunshine early. we'll get a little cloud deck and the possibility that by mid- to late morning, we could get a few sprinkles or light showers with this cold front. this cold front should move for the east and after it does so, we'll get a return to late day sunshine but the winner going to pick up behind the front. so wind again, 20, maybe 25 miles per hour along w

we have storminess out on the west coast once again. more heavy snows in the mountains of california, in the northern rockies, the pacific northwest. it has been a great month for skiers in the western u.s. another system that we're watching, too, see the jet stream here and this band of clouds across texas? that's the jet stream. as it comes across the deep south today, it's going to be a dangerous situation, especially into tomorrow when there could be a severe weather threat with them with the developing storm that will move into the ohio valley with heavy snow. for us we're watching the moisture coming through nashville. the clouds increase. by noon could be enough cold air, parts of the shenandoah valley into the mountains that we'll have some wet snow mixing in. in fact, north and west of town and i think this may be overdoing the snow line, i don't think it will be this far south, north and west of town there will be wet snow mixing in till about 8:00. then we start to dry out. everything pulls away. overnight partly cloudy with
